Steering Box Replaced
I finally changed my old leaky steering box today. The old one was real easy to steer and the new one seems to be real stiff. Is this normal or is there something I should be checking. All seems to be ok nothing is binding, first time Ive done this though and was just looking for some input. Thanks in advance!

You probally picked up a newer steering box Something like 77, or 78 they switched over to a steering style that helped a person "feel the road" a bit better by turning down the amount of assist given. Trust me, its even tougher to go from an 80 GMC to one of those super high assist steering boxes! I was constantly undercutting my turns with my 74 until I eventually got used to it :P That truck's power steering was so powerful that I could give the wheel a shove with my pinky, and it'd spin all the way to the other end and bounce off the stop without any more help.
Personally, I prefer the newer steering box "feel" The 88+ trucks went another step further, and personally, I think they are too stiff Never driven a vehicle with as perfect steering assist as my 80
