AC Compressor

Does any one know if there is a rebuild kit for auto ac compressors? My 87 GMC compressor is getting really noisy and starting to cool poorly. I am not sure if I want to spend the 190.00 for a brand new one.

There are clutch kits for them but they can cost nearly as much the whole compressor. I'd just go for a cheap $120 re-man compressor. I havent seen any issues (manufacturing defects) with the cheap parts store re-mans after all there rebuilt by the same place that made the OEM unit for your truck.

As cheap as $105 for a reman compressor, I have one on my truck that has been working great for years. (Mine is also converterd to R-134a)

Injected83GMC, could you provide details on your R-134a conversion?

I just put one on my 1985 Blazer from Advanced Auto for around $100. Works great so far.

Although you dident ask me. The kit is $45 comes with 3 fittings that you screw on 2 are for american 1 is import, 3 cans of R134a+ oil and a hose with guage usually. Replace fittings screw can into hose place it on the low side "blue cap, large accumulator line" start engine turn ac on high press the button on the hose or release the screw valve, turn can upside down and shake until empty. You should only need two of the cans that come in the kit. The kits with guages will show pressure dont exceed 45 PSI, 38-40 is fully charged.

This is exactly what I am looking to do! Did you need to evacuate your system first? How well does it cool compared to R-12? How long since you did it?
