Value of 1972 c10 Super Cheyeene in Ks

I am an insurance adjuster (yeh, yeh, no wisecracks) and need some assistance from fellow members, especially in the midwest. I looked at a 1972 Cheyenne Super lb, a/c (not working), tilt, was 402, now .030 350, over 100k mi, rebuilt trans, interior redone, body showing signs of age- rockers, cab corners, bedsides lower and around wheel openings, paint is checking and is two tone green and white(I need help sending pics if anyone wants to see them). Some kids threw fireworks into it on the 4th and it is now a crispy unit. I have to settle this with a customer and I need all the help you guys can give. Please email me at strausc2@nationwide.com with your comments.

Before or after values? Before, it would likely get about 2000-2500. After maybe $500...just mho. Hard to tell just looking at the bedsides.

Sound's convenient that the interior was redone, huh? Ain't sayin nothin else 'bout that Well, completely redone interiors are pricey, especially if it was redone as a Cheyenne. Truck looks a little rough. I'd say $2,500-$3,500. Hard to tell from pics how bad the body/frame/engine bay was before the damage. My $.02.

Pretty cool of you to check with the community rather than just going to the gold book. Wrong area of the country, but Nor Cal that truck might bring 2K on a very good day. Hard to believe an interior restoration given the condition of the truck. Engine bay burn too? Lets see that pic.

Don;t like insurance fraud. Even when the guy doing it is a "hard-working" guy. I have never had a homeowners claim in 8 years. Had 3 auto claims (1 me, 2 wife) in 12 years. My insurance is high enough as it is. I want my premiums based on ME not some bonehead making false claims.

Edit: Do not take this post out of context. It was made in reply to a post that has since been deleted.

I don't neccesarily discount an interior refit sans body work. I am doing that myself right now because I don't have garage space (or even a driveway) to replace the rusted panels. I'm doing what I can until my situation changes.

now though ....

I hate to throw rocks.. but the pictures raise some questions.

Looking at the third shot I notice that the dashpad is just gone... could be burned away? I suppose, but did the ignition, steering wheel and heater controls burn up also? It definatly looks stripped so I suppose the question is; before or after? The appearance from that pic is that no one has been crawling around in there after the fire so...

hey.. I'm just a programmer and an amatuer truck-nut so I could be out of it here.. but...

I don't think those are seat springs on the floor near the dash -- I think that is the wire from the inside of heater/def vent hoses.

you guys are being a bunch of asses dont yah think? if i go out and by an old truck with a decent body the first thing im gonna do is get it mechanically running good. and then for cosmetics im gonna do the interior first as it directly affects me when i drive it and i dont give a damn what everyone else thinks. i personally think it is great that this man would come on here to try and help his customer instead of calling it a useless heap of sh!t like MY insurance company did on my 2wd blazer. and it pretty much makes me sick to see all you people pretty much call this man a thief for making false claims when youve never even seen the truck. if he was a member with a $50 beater you would be praising it. give the man a break, maybe just maybe the whole country isnt full of criminals.

Sorry I sidetracked the thread. Just sayin what was in my head at the time.

In the guys defence: The dash was there. Looks like it was green. It was a Cheyenne door panel. The door panel trim ring is on the seat. The passenger side bolster spring is not broken and if the driver side one is not broken either a re-upholstered seat is definately a possibility.

The steering wheel though...

My truck was/is a running builder also. Did my interior first, then the bay and finally exterior paint. Now it's non functional acessories A/C, windshield washer.. I know everyone works differant, but while I was waiting for parts I'd allways be sanding/priming something. No way I coulda rode around with the rust bleeding through the white stripe and the bedrails. It's looks to be all just surface rust. Who could resist running a DA down that?

How about instead of accusing people of fraud, we go after the people that started the fire?

Where are they?? Heater controls, ignition switch, passenger door handle, steering wheel core? They are made from metal, should be something left over?

Things we can't see: Shifter arm from column (or floor shift), tilt arm, dash bezel.
Any chance of posting some pixs of the drivers area of the interior?

We all have different methods of how we go about restoring a truck, some will do mechanical stuff first, others will do the small easy stuff like interiors.

Here is a replacement truck in the same general contition, less the motor of course. Notice that the inside looks a little better than the body/tailgate, but this is a rainy costal area. Never spent anytime in KS so so I can't comment on how much rust is normal for that area.

http://portland.craigslist.org/pts/84234305.html

I'd like to know how this turns out.

Collar on the column, heater controls, ig swithch bezel and so on are white metal and would have melted. The shift lever would have fallen in the process. The steering wheel is a good question.

Coily wire on the floor is the heater hoses reinforcement. Appears to be a long strip from left floor to glovebox. Could be the dash pad reinforcement. Hard to say about the rest. Kansas and the Midwest has a lot of rust. That is typical to good condition for a driven truck.
Fully mechanical condition although incorrect motor, $2500.00 my thoughts.

Keith, lots of this on here lately. I have about dropped off here because of some of it. Know several others have too.
I noticed a potential new vendor blasted about a parking lot sale. "Not that nice a parking lot" and so on. Who asked anyone to comment?
I am interested in trucks. Not smart as* comments.
Sorry but I am outta here. Got better things to do.

To the adjuster. Check similiar trucks on Auto Trader and Hemmings. Base the decision on your better judgement. Good luck.

I don't envy your job, Damned if you do damned if you don't. About $2500 if it hadn't been burned. Depending on the receipts of the interior work done. Looks like the dash had an aftermarket am/fm/??, Aftermarket steering wheel, And a recommendation to owner to take pictures of any changes(for both insurance and truck history).
A new cab $1000 labor $1000, interior $2000+. Parts to replace it are always more then the end results.JMHO
P.S. Gas tank in Cab with fire, and Foam seat will melt pot metal controls and start to melt/deform dash.

Red face

Hope I don;t pi$$ anyone off even more. I'm just trying to mend fences.
As you have read, the poster of this thread is the insurance adjustor not the owner. I did commend the adjustor for seeking other avenues for appraisal. My comment regarding the validity of the interior rework was meant to make the guy LOOK at the truck.
True everyone is not a crook and I'd like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but we are talking about MONEY. Like Judge Judy says "caveat emptor, buyer beware". You would not buy a truck without either first checking out the truck or knowing the guys reputation is such that the truck is what he says it is.
That adjustor is a buyer using money that essentially belongs to all of his Customers. How pi$$ed would you be if he was a crook and got away with it? So, lol, if anyone gives a hoot, that's why I posted the way I did.
BTW, my 2nd post was made in reply to another post that was deleted.
Regards,
Rich

on a side note with the big block and if the body just has surface rust like the pic shows i would say it is a 4k dollar truck.

I'd say $2000-$2500 is about right on it, like Keith said if it were still original BB, $4000. I bought a burnt 4x4 a couple months ago, it looked exactly like that one does, no steering wheel, no controls, seat springs were all over floor board, anything thats made out of pot metal was gone, everything melted.

I didn't realize the casted parts could melt away at these kinds of temps.

I see a few comments got removed.. oh well.. I leave mine here. If I'm out of line then I'll admit it and leave the evidence.

I can't see enough of the truck to estimate the total value, but I can guestimate that the interior would run anywhere from about 1500 to 3500 to restore depending on what can be found in donor vehicles.

I wanted to cry when I saw that pic. It's the twin to the 72 CheyenneSuper I just bought I agree with Keith & Randy's prices. They seem fair.

Oh, and I wouldn't think twice about running that truck with the minor surface rust on the white... At least it's on the road. As far as hittin' it with a DA, that can be done anytime. It doesn't make it run any better, ride any better, stop any better or make it more comfortable to drive. Maybe the fella has a limited income(I know I do!) and can only do one thing at a time. I'm sure that if you to pay for the paintjob(since you can't stand looking at it driving with a little surface rust)he would oblige you... Oh, when your done with painting his, I have 3 like that you can come & do
