C2500 to K2500 ('70 GMC)

Here is the story,

Got a '70 GMC 402/400 14 bolt FF, ac cab, etc. I'm wanting to convert this thing to 4wd.(I know ) I dont want to swap frames. Anyone out there do this kinda thing?

I plan on doing light offroading/mudding and highway driving. Want the ratio to be around 3.07 (dont ask) overall.

First step would be putting the front axle under it, but only RWD, then put in the transfercase and front driveline.

If it's too much a PITA, just swap the whole thing for a 1 ton or 3/4 with a crap body.

Anyone?

It will be much easier and cheaper to swap frames. Find a 4x4 with good running gear and swap it all over at the same time.

Sure... it's easier... but have you tried to find a 4wd 3/4 ton 67-72 chevy truck in Washington state for $300? I havent. Besides... I want to be different.

I went 600 miles to get my rolling chassis that is now my 71 Chevy.

I've seen a 2wd that was converted to 4wd it originally had a coil rear.

The problems w/ that 402 will be, location it sits forward and needs to move back to keep the axle from hitting the oil pan. Also needs to go back for front driveshaft length. Of course if you fine a divorce transfercase from a 69-74 dodge w/ cross member then it would not be too bad. You'll need the front spring brackets and and the brackets for the rear of the front springs. You'll also need to move your e-brake cable where it goes through the fram as that's where one of the rear brackets goes. Also where the rear of the front springs bracket goes you'll need to hammer the frame flat. PM yukon jack he has a buddy w/ a 70 1 ton dually that was converted to 4wd.
If you have leaves in the rear then your good to go, except if you want to lift it, the 2wd leaves are narrower than the 4wd leaves.

I had a friend that did this, and he says he was stupid for doing it. He also says he will NEVER do it again.

Oh, and by the way, he's a mechanic for a living, and a CAT certified welder.

I have a 1969 3/4 ton 4.09 front and 4.10 rear end pulled in the yard. Also an old blazer frame you can use for hangers, and a core TH350 with NP205 case with drivelines somewhere in the bed of a truck. I should have a PS box also.
I will take $250 for the parts.
Bring trailer if you want the blazer frame.
Bellingham, WA.
