Tires On/Off Road

Can you guys recommend a few brands of tires for a 4x4 that will be diggin in the mud and also used on the freeway sometimes to work? Heard of ones called buckshot m/t's but can't find in 35's.

If you want long life....BFG M/T is the way to go.....I love mine....pull great off road on road they are quiet, hold the pavement, an will gofor 40k+ miles easy. definetly worth it IMO

My good for mud`n`hiways are BFG M/Ts,SuperSwapperSSRs,and GoodyearMTRs.You can tell by looking at them which is best in mud.They all wear well on the road.30,000 minimum to 40,000 max.The Swampers will give the least,but over 30K.The Goodyears do all the BFGs do,but better.Especially off-road.They cost about $25+ more,though.

A lot of my friends run BFG all-terrains or mud-terrains and from what I heard(and seen) they're awesome mudding tires.

BFG's are the worst rock throwing tires I have ever had. You should see the sides of my ZR2.

For a street and mud tire, get a BFG mudder. They chew in the mud and last along time on the street. The best general purpose tire in my opinion.

I personally run BFG A/T's and have not had a problem with them. 22,000 miles on my 8,000+lb rig and they are almost to 1/2 tread left. I only see mud sometimes, otherwise I'd go with the M/T's, but with the weight and front and rear lockers, I don't have traction problems with anything else. IMO, Super Swamper SSR's are worthless, I just watched a buddy run through a set in 11,000 miles, almost slicks, and he does 99% of his driving on the road.

I put a set of 33" Pro Comp mud terrains on my Z-71 and I love them. They bite great and don't have too much highway noise. They seem to be wearing great also.

I run remingtons on mine and they are pretty quiet on the road but very aggressive off road and havent had a wear problem with them yet

How long do PJ Dirt Grips last? I've seen them on TRUCKS! and they looked and supposedly worked really good. (Project "Crazy Horse")

Ryan68,you sure those were SSRs?I get 30,000 out of 285/75x16s on my work truck:`95 K3500 6.5TD,8`Reading service body full of tools(and bed),ladder racks and from time to time about 1,000lbs of equipment on the racks when I move jobs.Usually then pulling a trailer loaded.They`re rated at 3,200-3,500 lbs.each.

Oh, I'm sure. And before that, the same truck had PJ's on it and at just over 20K those were slicks too. It's an 02 Dodge X-cab SB 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 2" leveling spacer and 35's. Don't see what would be the big deal, especially since it's always empty.

I put goodyear wrangler MTR on my 97 Z-71 and like them alot.35 x12 1/2 15's. I am on my second set of fronts.Not much road noise if any until they start wearing bad.I rotate mine every other oil change and have gotten 30k out of them so far.Very good in the mud also.Great for the deer lease and headng offroad on weekends.They are a little pricy at 280.00 ea. through 4wheel parts but I have no complaints about them.

Toyos for the freeway and Super Swamper S/Ls for the mud. Unless you drive both in the same day or even week, it is a lot better to swap out for the nasty stuff. I can't imagine what a set of Boggers sounds like at freeway speeds. I am sure at 70+ miles an hour and 100 degrees F. temperature ( more like 120 F. on the black top) you could probably watch the rubber wear off from gas stop to gas stop!!

I think a lot of it all depends on driving habits and the weight of your truck. My swampers dry rot befor I wear them out.

Arizona uses alot of lava-rock in their pavement,at least in the north they do.Florida uses corral-stone,too.Both of these pavements,I`ve noticed,wear tires quicker.Ask this question around the world.The best you`ll get are lots of opinions based on various uses.The fact is,there is no across the board ideal tire for everyone.We can come up with what`s best for ourselves and even which gives all we could want from one tire.I like to have multiple sets,since each tire is developed for a specific use.Now that I have several vehicles that take the same wheel/tire sizes it`s easier.Even with one vehicle,I used to keep narley ones and all-terrains to swap.Costs twice as much,lasts twice as long.In little old Maryland I can be getting to a good surf-casting spot,get into swamps,hill-climb,mud-bog,cross-rivers,snow-trail,logging roads,and ofcourse the hi-way.

ProComp A/Ts have a 50,000 mile guarantee. I no nothing about the tires except what big70chevy said above.

Well it's a 1/2 with 3/4ton axles/suspension and a big block. It won't be driven on the freeway much, then also few times a week around town. The real serious muddin is about an hour away from here, and even then its not that serious. The closest places are like 'get in, get muddy, and done' kinda situations.

I've looked at all these tires you guys recommended and they look and sound really nice. My friends though keep tellin me that anything short of a swamper or mud tires I'm just kinda gonna be wasting money when I eventually want to get better gripping tires. I like what specialk had said about havin two sets or more, but that justs make me have to think of ways to secure them in the bed from theft.

I get 35k out of them with alot of road use and hard offroad miles.They kick ass in the rain. I had baja claws before these and never again will I buy them.

The bad thing about BFG's other than throwing rocks is they load up with mud and they don't clean out very well. I would check out the new line of tires from Mickey Thompson. They have the Dick Cepek line now.

I love my 35x12.50x15 BFGoodrich M/T's. Do well on the pavement and have not had any problems throwing mud with them. I had some A/T's of the same size up front and noticed that they did have tendenancy to clog up some what in some deeper mud. Mine came with my Blazer when I bought it about 3-4 years ago and they have only lost a little bit of tread since then. My buddy has 35" Pro Comp M/T's and he likes them and seems to do pretty well in the mud.

i use to have 35' ground hawg tires on my truck very loud on the street but very good off road.i am thinking about getting either them or the mickey thompson baja claw's next.
