500 cad swap?

Who has done it? I remember reading that somebody here has done it, but I can't remember who. I want to know what Kind of problems you had, how you like it etc.

I just bought a 73 eldo, but I probably won't swap in unitl next summer after a performance rebuild.

This is a swap I am very interested in, I just found a 425 that I can get, has a hair over 100K on it, and I can get it for pocket chainge. (even in my pockets) I am REALLY thinking bout this for the Longhorn.
They are high nickle blocks, so cylinder wear is not much of an issue, they were normally pampered by wealthy ppl who had them serviced regularly too.
69longhorn had done this, but he has taken a leave of absence from here. I think he said he had to make some spacers for inbetween the motor mount and mount towers. I could be wrong, but I think that was an issue.
Make sure you share any details with us, like i said, i am thinking about this swap myself.

Click on my signature to get an idea of what a Cad 500 looks like in my 72 cab/chassis dual wheel car hauler.
I had to build a rear sump on the oilpan ( after cutting the front sump off), stretch the oilpump pickup, lightly grind the upper right frame rail where the right exhaust manifold woulda hit, and BEAT in the firewall between your throttle foot and the tranny tunnel to clear the left cylinder head.

Thanks guys. Maximum Torque Specialties sells a mounting kit, so I shouldn't have to fab too much, and I'll be using bb chevy headers with a caddy flange welded on, So those should fit too. With an edelbrock intake, 10 to 1 pistons and a cam, I should get 450+ HP and 500 foot pounds of torque. Even more is possible, but it is spendy.
I plan to build the motor this winter and install it next sumer.

Duallie what kind of cad did you get that motor from? The Eldo has a rear sump already, I thought I'd be ok on that.

Longhorn. I have a 425 too, but they are more expensive to build for less ponies. I'd hunt around for a 500. I bought an eldorado for $250 complete and running with some trannie problems.

I got my engine from a 1975 Coupe Deville. It was abandoned in the woods all one winter after the kid smoked his second tranny. $100 and some pushrods and a timing set.
All cadillac engines in 75-76 are 500's. Only Eldorados have the rear sump. I didn't have a rear sump pan and was too broke to buy one, so I built a 9-quart one.

Actually, all '74-'76 are 500.
