I currently have a steel bed in my swb pickup. can I take it out and install a wood bed instead? what steps would I have to do? is it a simple unbolt and bolt in? thanks alot

Yes you can take it out, take out the bolts that mount it to the frame, remove the bolts on the inside bed around the wheel humps to the front panel, cut the welds at the rear floor, mine only had 1 per side. Take it out, it would be better if the bed was removed and you took all the bed panels apart. I wouldnt even attempt to do this on the truck...wont say it couldnt be done. Get the wood kit, it may require more cross sills to install. Also do it with a impact wrench when dissassembling, makes it easy.....Its not that hard if you have the tools, I stripped my bed down in about 2 hrs with impact wrench....remember youll need a grinder to cut the tac welds..

Aren't the cross sills different between the two types?

IIRC my Mar-k kit for 68 LWB with oak and stainless strips and bolts was about $1300 with free shipping. Nice to buy stuff that actually fits, good stuff, includes new front panel, rear cross brace, under box supports, etc.
