We all know the 73 to 87 trucks are noted for a mushy ,floating feel in the way they steer . Flaming River is making a power steering box that is advertised " varied effort based on ratio " and they offer 4 basic ratios . Can you duplicate the tight / hard feel of late model trucks with one of these steering boxes . Any one know what ratio would do that best? are they worth the $500 they get ?

Man, that is a pile of money to drop on an old truck. I rebuilt the front suspension and installed poly bushings and I'm happy with the steering in my old beater.

I don't thing they have an application for our vehicles. The '81-87 models have a quicker ratio (and it is variable) than the earlier models. http://www.agrperformance.com sell rebuilt boxes for these.

Chris , Flaming River is saying application includes GM light trucks up to 1/2 ton , years 64 to 95 and It fits 3 and 4 bolt setups . so I don't know may be the add is too general in description . What caught my attention was the add says "available in four ratios to fit virtually any application of steering feel you prefer " . That sounds like you could tailor a very stiff wheel if thats what you like .
