What did you do about the column? Install an automatic or just go with a floor shift?
Those knucklheads at GM stuck the reverse light switch in the column of my '72.

I'm using the original right now. Just did a little welding. Planning a tilt in the future.

The switch should be on the bottom of the column on an automatic ...I have no idea on a 3 speed.
As a temp thing, for your inspection or what ever, you could put a toggle switch on it.

I converted my 3-on-the-tree to a floor shifter and just wired a 3 pole, push button switch to the two wires coming from the column. Very easy to do, but now I gotta remember to turn it off after I use it (been pulled over many times for having them on).

When I got my truck the cowboy before me wired the back-up lights to a toggle switch. I too left them on all the time.

I just did the 3-speed to TH350 swap and was ready to wire the reverse light the way the factory did.

However I am getting a new boat and it has surge brakes that are disabled at the boat ramp by the reverse lights.

As long as I was wiring in a new toggle I decided to put in one of the lighted toggles. I haven't used it at the ramp yet but I haven't left them on and drove down the road either. Plus having the truck in park with the engine warming up and the reverse light on (via the toggle) while you are hooking up is a nice feature.

Anyone know if the back up light switch on 4 speed trucks is on the trans? I see 2 wires going to the top of the trans. Can't tell what color they are yet.

Those two wires should be green and dark green. And yes they do go to the b/u light switch in the trans cover.

It's a decent-looking work truck. No top-end, but it's great off the line.

Lightbulb

if you can find a van switch, it'll work, because it's mounted on the pan. I've heared they can be hard to find.........

Cool

I thought all straight drives the switch was located on the case of the transmission. So when it went into rev. it would come on. I know all of the four speeds I have had did any way. Just wondering. Might have learned something new.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
