Another "How much" thread!

Alright guys, I am asking what you guys think this truck is worth. I seen it today and it is up here in Canada. It is an Arizona truck that was brought up here not too long ago ( probably within the last couple months).

I did take a few pics. The truck looks pretty good for it's age of course.

It is a 69 C20 3/4ton Camper Special. It has a 327 , with a 4 spd, and also has ps, pb. The cab is an AC cab, BUT it was cut for a radio. I did see a bit of rust on the drivers rocker and floor, along with the kick panels. Nothing that is not fixable. Cab supports are great and cab corners are great too.

OK enough talking here are the pics.












And last but not least, I found a second gas tank that is on the passenger side, in front of the rear tire.

That's not an AC cab. There are no AC vents on the dash, and it has a standard heater core box on the firewall.

I'm thinking it's worth somewhere in the US$800-$1200 range, assuming it runs and is road-worthy.

Oops, then it was an aftermarket installed ac, but as you can see a few parts are missing.

I couldn't tell you by looking at it, cause I wouldn't know, I was just quoting what I was told and what was written up about it.


But it's looking like ( after the one reply to it's worth) that they are asking way more than it is worth. Problem being that there is NOTHING up here for cheap. As soon as someone drives down to the U.S. to get a truck and crosses the border it increases the price x3.

Based on the fact that it's in canada and appears to be really solid.... I'd go $2,500 on it. Original trucks like that don't exist up there. I'm sure you'd have a really hard time finding an original truck up there that nice, so even if it doesn't run, it's cheaper to pop in a junkyard 350 than to replace fenders, cab corners, floor supports, rockers, bedsides.....

If the rust isn't more extensive than the pictures indicate and the drivetrain is in good shape .... I would want to lift the sill plates and get a good look at the inner rockers though. a *whole* lot of problems can hide under the edge of a carpet.

I would expect it to go between about $2200 to $2800 here in the Mid-Atlantic. We *do* have a rust/price factor here (everything rusts here!) but they are more common around here than in Canada.

The bed looks good, the dents in the fender look minor, I see it needs a new windshield. The truck looks decent but I'm not of fan of 3/4 ton suspension. Makes wheel choices real limited. How much are they asking for it?. Have you checked with other board members who are selling trucks?.

It was brought up here a month or so ago from Arizona. I have a windshield from my 69 that I took out before getting rid of the cab ( along with an uncut dash, lol). They said it does run good, no issues with running/driving it. The drivers side rocker does need to be changed, not sure about the passenger. There is a hole by the kick panel in the floor on the drivers side, didn't see the passenger side. And I did see that both lower kick panels need work.

I don't like 3/4 ton suspension either, Especially since I have my 69 ( what is left of the truck) with a coil suspension on it and it's a 1/2 ton.

they are asking 4,800 CAD OBO, approx 3,900$ U.S.

I think I might as well wait and get what I want. I will eventually find a nice GMC(not chev) LWB, 2wd, 1/2ton, with ps, pb, a v-8 ( 350 or 327), daily driver. Manual would be nice but auto will do, and it will HAVE to have the coil suspension on it. And preferably a 69, but that doesn't matter since I still have to ownership and vin tags from mine, lol.

Only major problem is getting any truck back up north here. Usually costs more than the truck is worth. I will have to talk to a guy I know that deals in picking up cars down in the U.S. that he usually brings up here and rebuilds them.


I am getting the truck bug again, so just trying to deal with it. Have to decide over the winter if I continue racing next year ( go-kart) or use that $$$ and get my truck again. I hate seeing my truck sitting there in it's present state. I will get pics of it today hopefully, and don't get mad when you see them, lol.

This picture shows what you are likely to find under that carpet. The following picture shows what it can look like after cutting out the rust and welding in some new sheet metal for the floor and a new repro rocker panel. The cab corner was also replaced.

Here's another Canadian perspective. The 327 wasn't offered by the time that truck was made. I really doubt it would be in a c-20 anyway. This thing will still take a huge amount of body work - it looks like what isn't rusted is dented. I can go to the local wrecker and find bodies like that for $500. If the power train is good you could add another $400. In Ontario where the rust is a lot worse than here out west you'd probably be comfortable offering him more than I've suggested.

The pricing is clearly different in different places at the low end. lol
A $900 truck around here is something that has to be drug home on a rollback.

What I meant by that is the shipping costs. Crossing the border isn't that bad, but the person hauling it is what costs so much.

Yeah I think it is a bit high, and it is a 3/4 ton so I think I will keep looking. Maybe get lucky and find a nice rust free ( or as rust free as possible) down in the southern states and have it hauled up here for me.

I am thinking of somewhere in the range of 3,000-4,000$ U.S would be a good price to look at( good shape, little work).

Well, not having driven my truck in about 4 years now, it is hard. 2 years in storage while I moved out of town, then the last 2 years it well has been undergoing work, that is halted and looks like it isn't going very far.

OH BTW I got pics, let me upload them and post them of the current condition of my truck.

OK here are the pics.

Under there is what is left of the truck, frame, box and front clip.




There is my windshield tucked away in the box under that orange foam


There is my seat ( out of a 96 dodge ram) along with my doors, and if you look up on the racking you can see the box of parts( my interior)

I also think it is too high. The grille and bumper look bent, it is a 3/4 ton that you don't want, and has too much rust to be considered a must have. 3-4k USD should buy you a pretty nice truck from the SW States...many have been posted for sale on here. I have a rusty 70 GMC lwb that I wished was a 72 chev swb, and I regret not waiting. My suggestion is to wait until you find the "right" truck, keep checking the board here, and ask some vendors and members if they know of anything, since they can often see them first hand.

Out West !!

GMC69 have you ever though of looking in Western Canada for a truck. There are lots and lots of them here around Saskatoon and Saskatchewan in general. I could probably find you a decent one for 3 to 5000 CDN, but I would want a finders fee to do it. I spent 25 years in the car business working at dealers as a salesman and sales manager and know 67/72 Chevys and GMC's intimatley.
