2wd Lift?>?

Hi,

I have been poking at the idea of doing a lift on my 2wd '71 c20. Has anyone tried this, or done this. Any information would be much appriciated. I have found a company in Mesa, AZ that sells 3 inch 'lift springs' and also carries coil spring adjusters that could raise upto 5 inches, all parts specifc to 67-72 c20 8lug. I am guessing that these parts would work just fine, but what could be done to correct the front end geometry issues? Any info on something like this would be great. Or if anyone has any other suggestions on how this could be done. Thanks again.

- Jerry

It looks like you are doing a susension lift so you proably won't have any problems with linkages. Whay are you raising the truck. Don't get me wrong I like raised trucks and have wanted to do a chase truck for many years. So i am interested in your progress. Where are you in CA?

Most guys lift 2WD's to fit bigger tires under 'em. I can bearly get 33's in the front to clear the inner fender so I'll be lifting mine too, I like the idea.

Hi,

To be completely honest, I was enspired by Jims70GMC thread, "How About Another working truck thread". I love the look of his green/black longbed. I would like to achive the same look, and honestly have no need for a 4x4. I found a few parts that might work for the lift @ http://www.truckn-store.com I might go with a 3in lift spring or the spring perch adjusters; has anyone had any experience using these adjusters on our trucks, good or bad?

I am also wondering if I am going to have to do any modifications to the control arms to compensate for the changes in geometry. Thanks for the replies. Let me know what you think, take care.

What I've been thinking about doing is just putting some of the twist-in spacers in the original front springs to see what kind of lift I can get. I put two in each of the rear springs and got about 3 inches of lift, so I should get about the same in the front I guess. I'll try to get a before and an after pic when I get around to it.

Hi Robert,

Keep me posted. I would like to see what this looks like when you are finished up. Where can you find these twistin spacers? how much do they run?

Thanks again,
- Jerry

I'm not sure where you can get 'em. My Granddad was cleaning out his garage and found 'em loose in a box and gave 'em to me because that's what he bought 'em for. He just never got around to putting 'em on the truck. I think you can buy them at AutoZone or maybe CarQuest. They're kind of hard to install as you have to have the truck jacked up to release the tension in the springs and I busted the hell out of my knuckles doing this, but it was worth it. Hopefully I can get 'em put on the front of the truck this week.

my plan for this was to use a 73-up fabtech lift on the front and swap the axle underneath the trailing arms. i figured since the 73 up front end parts fit with little to no modifications, the lift ought to work, too. i have a concept foto, i'll look at uploading it again...we did this thread about 6 months ago. good luck finding it...
