Can anyone tell me how you can lower an '88 S10 Blazer 4x4, 3" in the front and 4" in the rear. It has leaf springs in the back and torsion bars in the front. I wish it had coil springs...that'd be much easier. Help please!!!!

Does it have a lift kit on it or is it stock hight now?

i know you can crank the torsion bars up to lift it, can you crank them down to lower it? i dont know, never played around with s-10s much.. and the little i have, i wasnt looking at lowering them.. the back would be easy... lower like you would any other truck.. probably with blocks, shackles, springs....

you could to crank the bars down but I dont think it would work well If you are trying to make a low rider out of it you may end up having to do a body drop. but thats a lot of work and if your tall it wont leave you with any head room.

Wouldn't selling the 4x4 and buying a 2wd S10 Blazer be easier? 2wd's are usually lower already. Plus to get the same ride height as what you wanted for your 4x4, you might only have to drop a 2wd 1"-2". Also a stock or slightly lowered 2wd will probably ride way better than a 4x4 that's dropped 3/4. Do you need the 4wd? If not you'd probably like the 2wd model better anyway.

Maybe he is going for a budget Syclone? Swap in a beefy 350. Syclone's are not cheap.

It's stock height right now...I found out that I can crank the torsion bars down but I was told it make a rough ride. It rides rough already so why not make it worse??

What could I do to the back. I'm used to working with a-arms and coil springs. On those rare occasions I NEED the 4x4. Any more hints??

The springs are under the axle,right?you can just use blocks.That`s easy.

thanks a bunch ya'll...it's getting stripped for it's new paint. Then the rest of the body work. Engines fine. 2 yrs old. 4.3L FI bored over 0.30. has 20,000 miles on it.

Instead of lowering it with springs, lower it with shorter tires. You might regret lowering it just because of your lower ride quality, or when you do occaisionally need 4wd. If you have the money and storage space buy new wheels too for the short tires and keep your old stock ones.

If your stock tire is a 235/75R-15 you could go to something like a 235/60R-15 and that gives you a 3" smaller radius which is like a 1.5" drop. Or you could get tires like 245/40R-17 or something like that. I've seen those kind of tires on new Mustangs. That tire would have a diameter of 24.7" which is about 4.5" shorter and could give you up to 2.5" drop.

Also going from a 29" tire to a 24.5" tire will make the engine turn 1.17 times faster and give you 15% or more torque and hp at the rear wheels. (it's not equal because of slight friction losses) So smaller tires might make it feel like a hot rod. A 26.3" tire will make it turn 10% faster. Plus a lot of the low profile tires can come in hot street treads like BFG's G-Force radials.

If part of the reason you want to lower it is to make it more stable, buying bigger front and rear sway bars might be a better idea. (ride quality) Then you don't need new shocks.
