That is my concern too. I would be buying it from a trans shop owner. He said he can get it for $650 and will need to put $200 in it. Does that sound about right?

Talking

I am not sure what you can do to a Muncie for $200. A rebuild kit is around $165 which does not include any gears or housing parts. The last M-20 that I owned, had to have $450 worth of parts and it shifted good. (Had a small noise in it which turned out to be a chipped cluster gear).

My advise is to be careful of what you buy.

Ouch!

Sounds like an E-BAY price to me! Most of the ones I've seen have been in the 5s & 6s. I guess the days of reasonable Muncies have become ANOTHER
E-bay casualty! Shame. I have several SM465s that you could have one of if you want to come to PA to get it. Sure would be alot cheaper, even with gas at $2.25+. Take care, Mike

Well you can buy and all new M22 RockCrusher - including a new case for around $2000 so $850 isn't all that bad. I would rather just buy a new one.

what is it going in? your truck or something that needs a M20- like a numbers chevelle or camaro???

Those old Muncie gearboxes were tough, but IMO , they arent worth the money guys want for them now. If you look in Summit racing , or Jegs you can get a new T-10 4 spd (was borgwarner, now Richmond) for around $1350. you will also have a lot more choices on gear ratios! IMO, in a heavy truck, you will like a 2.88 1st gear to get her rolling. its more money.....but its all new,& also a tough trans........ L
