Door locks driving me Nuts!!!!
All, I have just rebuilt my doors, new seals, felt, etc. My door locks do not work when the door is shut. When the door is open they work fine. I am not sure why, other than I have to really close the door hard to shut all the way. Any suggestions.

try pushing on the door when you turn the key. The new rubber is thicker than the old stuff and is putting pressure on the latch assembly.

My driver's side does the same thing. I can lock it if it is ajar, but once it's locked and I push on the door at all, it comes unlocked. I never tried pushing on it and then trying to lock it, I will next time I'm out in the shop.

Yep, new rubber makes it worse, I'll bet pushing in will help, but the real cause is parts wear. The main latch holds the gear so it won't turn and open, but as things wear the clearance for the lock part gets smaller and ends up taking some load off the main latch and it gets tight. Some lube and creative tweaking on the latch may help.

Also you might want to poke holes in the new rubber, it lets the air out faster for a better close.

i got the same prob only when i lock then shut my doors the lock pops back up. or if your in it and lock it, it opens right up from out side. found that one out when girlfriend tried locking me out of it. only way i can get it to lock right is locking it with the key.

Your right, you must lock with the key from outside.

You can't lock either door from inside by merely pushing down the lock button, with door closed? I know you can't lock from outside by pushing down the button and then closing the door.

Open the door and push down on the inside handle then close the door, if it is up just a little the door will not lock from the outside, bout broke a key until I figured it out.......and if you can lock your keys in these trucks your good,,,,,every owners manual i've read states that the door will not lock unless you lock it while inside the truck or outside with a key.....

You guys are geniuses! I tried pushing on my door, and the key locked it! Cool. Now I dare drive down to the big city. Just gotta be careful not to push a dent in my door.
