torque converter locked up?

What would happen if my torque converter was locked up, I put the tranny in reverse, and applied the brakes tightly? Wouldn't this cause engine grumbling, difficulty stopping the rear wheels from turning, etc?

I ask because I'm trying to figure out why my brakes won't stop my rear tires. I have a very solid brake pedal and the rear tires are up off the pavement.

So I'm starting to think it's not brake-related. My e-brake won't stop the rear tires either. Could this be torque converter lockup issue? It's a new 700r4 and I haven't wired up any torque converter control yet. So I suppose it could be stuck?

As sad as it is...I see this all the time, whenthere is nothing wrong. Esp if you have it in reverse. Rear drums do next to nothing in reverse.

I mean I'm stomping the pedal as hard as humanly possible and barely stopping the tire. And the engine is struggling as I'm stomping (this is with booster disengaged). When I tried a quick spin towards the back of the garage with front brakes engaged, the rear tires squealed a little bit when I held brakes down - like the rear was determined to keep moving.

rear brakes dont provide much for stopping power especially if you have no power assist and its a power brake truck. your not doing much as far as braking without the booster helping

A locked up torque converter will kill the engine when the vehicle is sitting still. I've seen them come into the dealership many times. The customer will be coming to a stop sign and the car will simply chug and die.

Like Andy said, rear brakes, especially going in reverse, won't do much. Also, Cableguy is right, hook up that booster too.
