Tailgate power window
New to this part of board just got a 1980 2wd Blazer. I'm normally on the 69-72 Blazer board. I have (2) 72 Blazers 2wd and a 4x4. Also have a 76 Chalet Blazer. Need help with the rear power window in the tailgate. I have 2 problems, the first is the window will go down using the dash button, but it will not go up. I took the cable loose and used my drill to get it back up. The second problem is I don't have a key to the tailgate. The blazer did'nt come with any keys. That was'nt that big of a problem I used a lock set from a 79 Nova parts car I have. I have already installed the ignition key and door locks. How do I access the lock in the tailgate? Help please! B.B. Thanks

Wtih the tailgate open there should be a square panel in the middle of the gate. Everything is accessed from this area. Not to much room in there to do much. Hope you do not have big hands or arms,I do that's why mine will only open from the dash. Lots of luck.

I'm going to try to use the trunk lock from the nova. I'll try to see if I can get into the panel. Thanks B.B.

I do not think that will work. If I remember right mine had some wires onit so that when you turned the key one way or the other the window would go up/down. Not sure and I just sold my 85 K10 blazer yesterday so I cannot check. Try a site called "chuckschevytrucks" I think that is what it is called,he has numerious digrams on it and a lot of helpful info also.

Not sure thats the problem your having, but its worth a look. Also, you might check your switch on the dash. I carefully took mine apart and cleaned the contacts with steelwool. Incidentally, If your motor is bad, you can get one at GM for about $160. or at O'rileys for @ $65 with a lifetime guarrentee.

I mean the the connector on the plug at the end of the wireing harness that plugs into the motor. It was kinda bent flat so I put a tiny piece of rubber between the connector and the plastic plug to push it out some. Kind of a cheap solution, I know, but its kept it working for a couple years.

I can probably help you out as i converted my 79 to a manual setup last wednesday. She's my rockcrawler and doesn't need the power stuff.
When i get off this job i can call you with my diagrams in front of and all the parts still on the floor. To get the rear lock/switch assm out you must remove the access cover on the tailgate then remove the regulator to access the two 7/16 nuts. Also the window has to be out so just jumper the two blue wires at the deadman switch located on the drivers side tailgate catch....so you can roll the window out....you might have to unplug the round connector behind the bumper and use some jumper wires to manually provide power to the motor....the orange wire is your constant hot... Email me at k5nutt@hotmail.com....if all goes well we'll be done thursday drilling this hole...then poss sat if you want i'll call you and walk you thru it...plus i could take pics of the parts since they are under the workbench.... Glad to help. I thought the K5nutt name i use over at CK5.com really fits me as i go a little overboard when it comes to k5's. I have all the factory Helm manuals from 73 to 99 and wiring manuals to 91...i have dealership posters of K5's in the garage...gm black and white glossy press releases etc. lol. Feel free to email me for help...allthough i'm usually seperated from my goodies as i spend weeks at a time onsite on an oil rig...
What stopped me from doing a repair was as i had the harness apart i found severly oxidized wiring in the harness and the factory rubber plugs that hide the series 56 cconnectors are impossable to repair...i did make a new connector out of a 4 way weatherpack connectors to cure that problem but the rest of the harness would have to be rebuilt from scratch with new 10 gauge wire and that left the firewall connector as the last problem to overcome....all the resistance in the circuit are what cause windows to operate slowly. I saw some of the parts I'll need to do the conversion in the Chevy Duty Catolog. If you have found any of the parts I'll need let me know. Thanks B.B.

I have a fairly new regulator...motor..cable...transmisssion is oem ciraca 1979....harness is in pieces as it will need to be rebuilt from scratch with quality 10gauge txl wire...the only other problem is the passthru connector at ther firewall....more of the molded series 56 stuff....i think i have a cure for that too...not sure if i want to cut loose with my parts just yet...i do have a clean power gate i need to pick up from a friend for rebuilding his 12 bolt and providing a slightly used 12 b chromo axle ....but i just haven't the time as of yet to ponder what the fate of the titless 79 2wd K5 that sits in my back yard....which of course is where all the power gate goodies will go...
