What shape is the rear cover?
If it is round, like a salad bowl, it's an HO52. A corp rear with an Eaton diff in it. If it looks like a dana...it's a dana. ![]() |

Alaskan, why do you say you have the HO72? 3/4 ton trucks only got the HO52.

I have a dana 60 in my garage that came out of a 71 C20 w/ leaf springs, was 4.10 ratio. Does it look like this in shape?

I was wondering about this too. I just crawed under there Sunday and wrote down the only info I could find.
It says: "GM55" There is a series of numbers on the axle tube, but it only says: Top row:"1 2 3 4 5" Under that it says: "6 7 8 9 0" I tried looking everywhere on the Pumpkin and all around. Did I not look close enough?

The 12 bolts hold the ring gear and carrier halves together, there are 10 bolts holding the cover on and 10 bolts holding the third member on.

I have the same rear end in my 1970 GMC C20. 8-Lug, 1/2" Studs. On the top right hand side above the Dif cover it has the same code stamped upside down of C-30255, and on the bottom side of the Dif cover it has the number 60 |

Re: how do i find out what rear end i have
Right on, thank you. My truck is a 2WD and on the Front it has Spindles from a 1972 Chevy for the front disc brake conversion. But those Wheel Studs are 9/16" and on the Rear Hubs they are 1/2" Wheel Studs. Hopefully I'll be able to purchase new rear hubs with 9/16" Studs.
Or will I have to have them drilled out....? |
