Floor board buttons

On the floorboards , on either side of the rear end of the trans hump there is about a 5/16 dia. button looking standoff about 3/8 high or so. Can anyone tell me their purpose/////////??????

Mine are used to hold the rubber mat in place! Possibly for carpet also???
