How to replace a lost title?
Say a guy has a '60's model body with no title, anyone have any ideas how to get one other that dealing with local law enforcement personnel that act as they see fit? There is a website that says they can do it for $240.00, but it sounds a little shady to me. By the way, this is for someone else, I'm just trying to help him out by searching for info, appreciate any help, LB.

I don't know about Jayhawker country but in Tx all I had to do was go fill out paperwork.I spent about 10 min.proving I was me (Drivers license) writing in the #'s on the form and it cost me $5.00 .I got the regular title in the mail about 10 days or so later.
I had another title lost and had to get the leinholders signature on some paperwork.Luckily he was still right in the same bussiness adress he had been at for 20 years.I sent it in with the form and got title just as quick.

If it was titled in your own name, it should be as easy as going to the DMV and applying for another one.

I would contact the DMV in your area and ask them. They're the people that would know.

Does your friend have proof of a bill of sale? That, his identification, and the VIN of the vehicle is all you need to get a new title in most states.
Don't go to some "guy" with some website. That's BS. They're going to the State and probably lying to them to get a new title in your name. Don't let people misrepresent you.

I once had the same problem when I bought a '55 Desoto with no title. I went to the DMV and they gave me a form letter to fill out and told me as long as the NCIC (National Crime Info Computer) came back as not stolen I could have a new one issued. I had to have a bill of sale and it would only work with vehicles over a certain age.
To make a long story short, call your DMV, They ain't that bad... Roger
