Newbie with 61 Custom Cab Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

First of just wanted to say hello. I just purchased a 61 LWB cust cab with 350/th350. Body is rough, but it is a good starting point. I installed new back glass yesterday using the rope trick (no fun but it finally went in) I am having trouble getting the lock bead in there as the gap is very tight in the corners. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Welcome to the board, and congradulations on your new old truck. It really doesn't look that bad, especially for it's age, I've seen much worse. According to the hood, grille and fender badges it's a 62, 60 & 61 had the hood with the pods around the signal lights and the grille had four headlights. It could have been an early 62 and was titled as a 61. As for the window gasket, yes they can be very tight in the corners, especially some of the new replacements. I usually lube them up with armorall or son-of-a-gun, and that helps a little. Just be sure to wash it all off the body before doing any body work. Best of luck.

Thanks....I knew the hood was different, all of the wiring is only for single head lights and looks to be original, but who knows. It does have the torsion bar suspension though, so the chassis must be 62 or earlier right? Got the gasket finished up today, pulled the truck out in the sun to get the gasket nice and warm, then used wd-40. Now its time to start on the body!!!

Yes, 60-62 had the torsion bar front suspension.

I love the truck.

Do you by chance have a pic of the th350 crossbrace?

I made one for my '62 that is bolted up to the 2 inner frame rails(X part of frame) to miss the torsion bars.

There is a small special tool to get the window bead installed. You can get it at any of the parts houses, Brothers, LMC or Chevy Duty. Try NAPA also.
