Changing gages in truck

I looked in the FAQs section and did not see anything on this. I have all apart except I can not figure out how to get the odomerter out. That thing is holding everthing up. I found out you do not unscrew it. But I am at a loss. Can anyone help. Harder job than I thought. Nothing like the '67-'72' They were a snap. Is there a sit to show how to do this???

Thanks iceman, I will look and see if I can find a clip. Guess you just pull the clip out and it shoud come apart? Put the clip back in on new gages?

I am trying to get the speedo off of the wires and the cable. So I can take the whole thing out and put new in. What I mean by "whole thing" is the plastic case that all this is in. I want that out so I can put a defferent one in. Just can not get the speedo out.

It was really streight forward till I got to the speedo. But now that iceman told me what to do it too was simple. All gages come right off after you take out the screws. They pull right out. The speedo is where you push in the wire and the cable comes out then you turn it over and take out the screw and the wires behind the speedo comes off then pull out the main wire harnest and that is where I am till tomorrow. Taking out the backing piece of plastic was tricky. You really have to move it around and push up on the pad to get it out. Now all I have to do is put new in tomorrow. Sorry , did not think of taking any pictures. If you do yours maby you could take pictures.

Here is a picture of the one I will be putting in truck. It is not really "new" but I took all apart painted inside chrome, installed LED lights (blue) and white gage overlays. Also wanted the speedo to have trip setting so I got one. I will take a picture when I have in truck. A day time and night time picture.

Did a little changing. Decided to keep the clock and I put it back in. Now I have the overlay on the clock. I did this after the picture was taken. Also not have the over lay on the gear selector. Looks really good. Also put over lays over the heat and air and put in LED bulb there too. (as you can see in picture, the shifter wire guide is broken so had to make anither change.) Oh well. Now I have one with the tach but still have white overlays on them. Will take pictures later)

Well , I got the gages off of e-Bay because I wanted the speedo with the extra mileage gage that shows how far you have gone and got overlays that you stick over the old gages and LED lights in blue. I also painted behind the black cover with chrome paint and also the backing plastic that the gages go in with the chrome paint. The gages will really show up in the dark now when the lights are on. LED's are the way to go. I will see if I can get the web address and post it on here. Sure makes the dash look nicer I think. Did not take long to do eather. Just have to be careful when painting to make sure you do not get paint on any of the connecters or on the back of the cluster.

OK, here is the address for the gage covers. http://www.durangedesign.com/
They also have the LED's
Here is another address for more LED's http://www.superbrightleds.com/

How did it turn out?
Got any 'after' pics (especially nitetime pics with the blue LEDs lite)?
Did you end up with any hot spots?

Have not put back in yet. I ordered some new air vent outlets for dash. I will take pictures in the day time and night with lights on to show the blue LED's. Also put white covers over the clock now and took out the heat & air control and put the blue LED in it and white gage cover like on the rest. Will take picutre when I have it all back together. Doing some other stuff while I have apart. It is so much easier to get to the inner wires etc. with the gages out so not in any hurry. But it is wierd driving with no gages. I just have to make sure I have plenty of gas in truck. I have been driving the '70 more lately and my wifes jeep.

I did not know that. He got on here just to promote his product? The product is great and I also love them.

i have the white over layes also i really like them the only thing i can see that i did diffrent is i put a tack in place of the fuel and replaced the clock that didnt work anyway with a 2 in fuel gauge i love the look to put the tack in i had to trim a lot of the cluster away and i rolled part of the ele. board up and out of the way and i lost mt right hand turn indicator on the dash (small price to pay for a clean looking dash with tack in.

Do you have a picture of your dash? Would like to see it. Did you put in the LED's?

Gotcha, Thanks.
Are you planning on replacing the bulbs/lense covers for the turn signal indicators as well?

No, the turn signal indicators will stay the same. I will be putting in a rebuilt tilt steering in now that I have everthing apart. I hurt my back the other day so will not be going back together as fast as I would like it to.
