Temp Gauge Troubles
When I take the wire off the sending unit and ground it out, the needle moves 3/4 of the way across the gauge.
(I think this would indicate that the gauge is OK?) I also put in a new temp sensor between the #1 & #3 spark plug. I did not use teflon tape as not to interfere with the ground. Still the needle only jumps when I turn the key on and nothing after that. Any other Ideas that could cause my temp gauge not to work? |

Has that wire to the sender been burnt and spliced before?May need to run a new wire.

Spliced Wire
The wire was broken so I spliced in a new one, I used a much heaver gauge wire however, could going from original size to large size back down to original size be my problem?

I have a question about the gauge. If you are looking at the back of the gauge, which post is the 12v and which one is the sender?

With the key off, both posts are dead.
With the key on, both posts are hot?...could it be my circuit board? |

another thing that it might be is they gave you the sensor for an idiot light dash instead of the gauge model. They do make a difference.

(I think this would indicate that the gauge is OK?) Actually the guage should peg on the hot side. I would check further into sender wire. Possible bad ga. also. Plus check sender # as was mentioned. John

Possible Cause
I did a little more research...
I bought the sensor at NAPA they have the same part number for the light and the gauge sensor. I called a few other parts stores and they have two different part numbers and prices for the two sensors I guess sometimes even the experts can be wrong |
