Column shift question

My poor truck has a column shifter, a clutch pedal, and some kind of Oldsmobile looking floor shifter.

I'm guessing it was a 3 on the tree originally, but it has a TH350 connected to the floor shifter.

Eventually I'll throw in a auto overdrive tranny, but for now I just want to hook up the column shifter. Does anybody know what I need?

I'm guessing the column and shifter aren't specific to either manual or auto?

Thanks,
Chris

Column shift parts

You will need an auto column, the linkage to the trans as well as the pivot bracket and trans bracket. OR...you can get an aftermarket linkage set up for like $50 that works great. I have it on my 71. I can post pics when I take them. I have the link to the place somewhere.

Thanks for the info! I had seen a couple of linkages, one was from Lokar I believe. The other is this one:

Is that what I need?

Thanks!!

The shifter was differernt for the automatic. Personally I kinda like the 3 on the tree. Its different. Its fun. And as long as you are just using the truck to cruise its great. (Kinda slow and sloppy for anything fast...)

The 3 on the tree had linkage that connected to the column under the hood and went under the truck to the trans. Im guessing the linkage was removed when the floor shifter was put in. If you want to go back to stock and use the 3 on the tree, you will likely need new linkage and bushings. I bet you can get a set pretty cheap on the parts board.

So I can't use this column (originally 3 speed manual shift) with an automatic tranny?

Correct. Most poeple replace the whole column with an auto column with tilt from a van, or buy a new one. They are readily available but pricey.
