Model year differences

What are the differences in the C10 models from 67-74? Also, what would the curb weight be of say a 72 swb with 4wd and a big block?

Welcome to the board!
At 73 the trucks changed body styles all together.
As far as curb weight you would have to ask someone who has one. 4x4's didn't come with big blocks in the 67-72 era.

in 73 there were more changes than body style. Two quick ones are the frame is wider and the rear leaf springs are 2.5" vs 2.25". There are many many more changes.

73 engine pay got alot wider.
totally different trucks, they share very few itmes.

I want to get a pre-75 to avoid having to pass smog here in California. I plan on having as large an engine as possible with a turbocharger put it and I think that will take up a lot of engine bay area. I also want it to be AWD so it can hook up off the line. I was planning on doing the same thing to a Chevelle but I figure the AWD would have better traction on the street.

Would a 72 be much lighter than a 73?

Still couldn't find out how much lighter the 72's were compared to the 73's. I want to keep the weight down for quickness.

One thing that the 67 - 72 has over the 73 - 87 trucks is the rear suspention. If you look under one of our trucks, you'll see the same rear set up as on a bush car. (I think it's bush cars.... some sort of stock car) The long controll amr with coils not only goves a nice ride, but it hooks up pretty good, and with a little work, you can tune it to your needs.
The 67 - 72 is WAY better looking than ANY 73 - 87. (sorry later truck fans...but that's just MY opinion)
the 67 - 72 isn't as wide, but they are taller, and the edges aren't as smooth. Look at the top of the cabs.
As far as weight, my estimate is they will be very close for 2 simalarly equipped trucks. You can make them lighter... lots of fiberglass stuff out there, light weight rims, alluminum blocks.... ect.
As far as room uinder the hood....even in the 'narrow' confines of my 70, I was able to stuff a caddy 500 engine, and STILL have tons of room. I could easily fit 2 turbos in there. If i were to mount my 500 a little lower, I could do a small blower and maybe not need to cut the hood. MAYBE.
Plus...as you mentioned, the older the vehicle, the less smog crap to deal with.
