What is a good price for a windshield installed? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I got a quote from a local company to install a tinted & shaded windshield in my 67 of $200CDN. 140 for the glass & 60 installation. They'd even come to my house to do it & gasket included. The guy said it was a Guardian windshield & that now-a-days, the law sez we must add a small bead of urethane under the gasket for extra safety. I THINK this sounds like a great deal considering that I'm looking at 50 bucks for a used, mildly cloudy along the bottom windshield, plus installation. Is this a good deal? This all seems pretty cheap to me, but they've been doing glass for 8 years. How do they make any money?

Well, I just paid $165 US plus about $40 for a gasket and had to put it in myself. Sounds like a steal to me, just make sure it fits real good and you get a guarantee against leaks and fit. if yours has the stainless trim, that can be a pain too, make sure stainless trim if you have any, goes into the rubber before glass goes in.

2 bills sounds like a good deal.......the new glass wont have any scratches, or clouding either

71 longbed who did you have do it? And is the glass nice? They have any trouble? I bought a new windshield that was tinted real nice.. broke it trying to install myself. So then I called an outfit.. took them 3 tries to install their glass. The glass they installed was much cheaper looking and it broke a couple years later. Now I've got 2 rigs that need glass.

Two years ago a friend called around. Best price he could get was $200US, cash only, no insurance filing. With insurance filing it was about double the price.

m&s glass here in salem ... they had alittle problem getting it in .. but all ended up well (they told me if it did break , they'd cover the cost of the new glass) ... its tinted ... which i didnt like at 1st becuase it doesn't match all the other windows .. im use to it though ... seems worth the money

I paid $150 installed, had the gasket already, and they came to my house,
guy did it in my garage while I watched, I reccomend the rope thing if you
are doing this by yourself, it went in pretty easy, I bought the green glass
to match the rest of my factory tinted windows, matches up really well

200 Cdn is totally fair. I paid $140 like the rest for a tinted window and installed it myself. I would get a new one. Think of how much money they are making coming to your house and installing it. Does not look like business I want to get into.

$200 is a good deal especially if you never tried to install one! By the way, most glass companies use glass made in Mexico that they pay $50. for --on a 67-72 truck. That's how they make money. Also most of their business is insurance where they charge like $350. for glass and install!!!!!!!

Installed one last week $207 including GST into a 72 blazer.
Same thing they came to my house (Calgary)

UPDATE: I had the glass installed. The appointment was for 9am & the guy was here @ 12:40pm.

It is a PPG windshield "Made in China" but it fit really well. The truck is still in old paint & I want to safety it so I had him reuse the gasket (I'll use a new one when it gets new paint). He "roped" it in, then pounded it in to seat the 2nd lip of the gasket, glued the tab on for a Caprice rearview mirror (with map light & compass) & cleaned it all nice all for 200CDN plus tax. I was at work by 1:20. Looks good. I HOPE it doesnt crack/chip too easily....

From this post I take it you are supposed to replace the rubber gasket. I have a different front & rear glass that I was going to rope in my truck but was planning on reusing the old rubber. I didnt know about pounding it into a second seal either
