My truck was rear ended.

On the way to work this morning a guy in a Grand Cherokee smacked the back of my old stepper. He didn't have any damage, I suffered a bent rear bumper, bumper brackets, and bent tail gate. He got into the tailgate because my truck is lowered.

I was pulling away from a light on an interstate exit ramp and the guy behind me apparently didn't get it stopped in time. He admitted in writing that the accident was his fault.

Since my truck is old and rusty I kinda expect to get stuck by the insurance company. The tailgate and bed were the only nice rust-free panels left on my truck. I have all the rust free panels collected to re-body my old truck, but I was planning on re-using my now bent tailgate.

tell the guy to give you the $500 that it is gonna cost on his deductible. that should get you a new gate, bumper/roll pan and then some. i would go that route if possible. that saves you getting screwed and his insurance going up. i know here in TN if an accident has less than $400 in claims this is the way we do it. just a thought.

I hope that this works out better for you then when I got into an accident with my Cutlass.

A lady failed to yield when making a left hand turn and pulled right out in front of me. I slammed into her pretty good. I don't remember the cost of the damage, but her insurance company only gave me 1500 for the accident. No where near what it was going to cost to fix.

But they claimed the car was not worth over that and anything over that, they would of totalled out the car and then it would have a salvaged title and I would be out less money.

I had just got done restoring this car also. It was perfect, but it was damn nice. But insurance doesn't go by looks. They go by blue book values. That was the value of the car in good shape.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out!

well lets just say the bed hit the cab on the pass side,rt bed rail was hurt bed floor was buckled bumper brackets and new bumper killed and all i got was 1700 but what the insurance dude messed up on was that he said it had 60,000 miles on it, when it has 360,000 at the time, it hit me so hard my dash moved my radiator moved,my battery moved pulled my amp wire out of my amp plug, but it bent the frt bumper on the guys truck and he admitted to it until the report came out then he said that i stopped in middle of the road when i did but i was turnin to get my bro from school and the construction worker stopped me but what they didnt know that i had like a new bed waitin to go on there anyways and it didnt cost me a dime for the bed

I just spoke to the insurance adjustor. I will be able to take my truck to a friends body shop for repair. Looks like I should come out okay, the damage to my truck looks to be one dead stepside bumper, the brackets, and maybe a tailgate. It looks like the frame escaped damage.

Any idea what the book value is for an 84 stepper with close to 175,000 miles, rusty cab and front clip? It might still be a total depending on cost of parts and labor. I found a Kelly blue book site and checked the trade in and re-sale value. For an 85 the trade in is $525 and re-sale is $1200.
