Is it possible to supercharge a 250 (I-6)

I have been thinking about this for a while now and have come to the conclusion of sticking with my straight 6 for my 84 chev. But i would really like some more power out of it and something special that no one hopefully has under the hood. i am open for all ideas on creating a on-off truck.

Well you could get a centrifical SC and make it work or make a turbo setup which wouldent be too hard to setup.

a turbo should be alot easier. i don't think you would have killer power gains that rival v8 stuff but you would have my coolness vote for sure.

doesent a turbo run off the exhaust and by the way with this I-6 i can race against (and win) people with 305 and a bit larger i dunno why but i can

i'm sure you can get one to go, they have good torque, look at a toyota supra (inliner). i'm just saying don't expect to get 400 HP like a naturally aspirated SB is gonna put out. i for one think that a forced air inline would be way cool.
i don't think there is much aftermarket support for chevy inlines is all. there is, but not alot. turbos can adapt to most anything and a supercharger would have to have more fab work and research done, but it can be done.

Yes it is possible. I just picked up a 292 I6 that i am planning to run twin turbo's on. It is currently in the planning stage.

There is more aftermarket support for the I6 than you realize. Clifford Performance is one that only deals in inlined. Sissell Automotive has an aftermarket head for them.

Leo Santucci has a book on Chevy Inline 6's called Chevrolet Inline Six-Cylinder Power Manual. This is his turbocharged 292 I6.

wow cool stuff. what i stated above about getting 400 Hp out of an I-6 i might have misunderstood myself. you can get 400hp from an inline, i've seen supras with 800hp. i just meant that you can't get it as cheap as you could for a V8.

I have seen at the Houston Raceway Park, a guy who cut a prostock motor in half and ran in the 4 banger class. That was awesome.

Oh yea you can get major gobs of power out of an inline but fuel economy goes from better then an 8 to worse then a BB. GM blessed us with a platform which is easy to go from one extrem to the other so most just pop in a 350.

You can get a 4bbl intake for your six too that alone tends to wake them up or you could do the power package intake/cam/valve work and header. Even changing the timing advance with a $8 spring/weight kit works well. They even make headers with dual outlets. An inliner guy was telling me about the intake he got off of e-bay it's a factory 4bbl spread bore setup one of the ones they sold for export to some south american coutry. He said they sold our 74 Novas as 78's to this place and all the 250's had this intake and a q-jet on them.
