Question One Piece Side Glass

I noticed on Low68's truck he has one piece side glass. I had thought before that would be a cool custom modification, I wasn't aware that it had actually been done. Is there a kit out there for this conversion?

I don't have any problems with my one piece glass, or the power window regulators. It all works slick, unless I'm on the freeway. I get so much air pressure inside the cab that my drivers window sometimes has problems fitting in the channel while going up. Most of this is do to the bad door weatherstrip I haven't replaced yet. Other than that, it's one of my favorite mods.

Pont . . . once again I f**king love that truck! What window kit did you use? I've seen posts from people who say 'don't do it', what is your opinion? Would you do it again? Are the kits fairly easy if you apply common sense? Thanks in advance for any info that can help.

LOL, thanks SCOTI

As usuall, pics tend to hide alot of problems. It's only an illusion that my truck looks good Thanks again.

Window kits, yes I will be doing another one when I find my 2wd to build. I like the looks of them and have owned too many vehicles with wing windows that are fine for low speeds but get out on the freeway and they always seem to whistle and leak air. At least the ones I've owned. I'm sure new rubber would solve that problem. I still like the solid glass look.

I bought my window kit from Mothertruckers but it actually came from Brothers. I just bought it cheaper from Ed at Mothertruckers than what Brothers wanted for their own kit. Install is fairly easy. You do have to remove and use the stock division bar from your wing window assembly. Other than that, just takes a little time to put it all together. I did the power regulators at the same time. I got them from A-1 Electric I think. Power window switches are mounted where the window cranks used to be. Covered them perfect. If you need any additional info, don't hesitate to contact me. Always willing to help if I can.

Talking

I also bought the Brother's kit. It looks to ba a very solid kit. I talked to the guys at Brother's abou the neg. vibe of this conversion on the board, he said they came on the board and answered all the questions about their kit. He also said that the main reason people have problems is they refuse to buy new regulators, instead they use the 30+year old regulators. That are real sloppy from 30yrs use. Therefore the glass does not slide up and down the channel. I hit them with all kinds of questions, and he had a SOLID answer for each. He restored my confidence in the kit and I bought. They were very helpful and professional.

Thanks Pont & Nsane. I've got a pwr window kit for the 67 up in my attic somewhere & it has new regulators so that shouldn't be a problem. I've had trouble w/the beater pass side door/window lately so I'm thinking about getting a kit from Brothers & then duplicating it for both trucks that way I stretch my hard earned $$ as far as possible because if I remember correctly they're not giving them away$$$$. Pont I may just hit you up if I run into trouble. Hell I think it's funny as sh!t you are talking about doin' a 2-wd 'cause after looking @ you're truck I'm thinking about building a 4x4 short wide. LoL.

SCOTI, I hear ya! As if this board isn't addictive enough, then we get to see other members rides and motivation kicks into overdrive. I was happy and content to finish this 4x4 project (which I still will) then I saw ProSt68's truck. Damn, gotta build me one of them. Then I saw pics of Flyin99's truck. Yep, gotta build a Pro Street 67 or 68 SWB. It will be a few years in the making after I find the right truck to build, then come all the tough decisions. Definitely going BB but what about a blower? Hmmm, hard to say at this point but it will be clean, shaved and low to the ground. Yep, gonna do a one piece window kit in that one as well.

Keep me posted if you go ahead with a 4x4 project. I can be some help on suspension and crossover steering on a tall rig.

Take care...........
Rob

Ah, believe me, I have thought of just about every possible configuration but there is just something about the sound of a blown engine and a couple 4's sitting under a Hilborn scoop peering through a cowl induction hood. Huge meats in the rear all tucked up in the bed and slammed to the ground. I'm getting a semi just thinking about it. Late model gadgets throughout would be soooo cool but there is just somthing about the body style of these trucks that beg to be blown. Nostalgia maybe? Who knows, I may change my mind before I get that far along.

Timamin, here's the website I bought my kit from.

http://www.mothertruckers.net

The one piece window kits just replace you vent window and replace with solid glass with all weatherstripping and hardware needed. You can use this kit with your stock manual regulators or with new power regulators, your choice.

Thanks PONT and LOW68! We have been selling the 1pc glass kit for a while now and have found that if you follow the directions that come with the kit it installs very easy BUT sometimes you have to grind a little bit of the upper hinge doorstop bar about an 1/8"to keep the glass from hitting it with the door shut (this is covered in the direction sheet) Good working regulators or new ones are a plus and power windows are a great upgrade. We also sell rebuilt upper hinge kits that are ground for 1pc glass kits, they are rebushed and have new friction pads and retainers installed. Any install questions can be answered by us or Brothers no matter where you buy them. These kits sell fast so call to make sure they are in stock. Current kits available,

67-72 suburban

MOTHERTRUCKERS

Ed, is the rebuilt upper hinge kit for the one piece windows listed on your site? How much do these sell for? I have grounds mine for clearance but the stop tends to flop around and sometimes gets in a position where it hits the channels, wanting to pop the track out of the aluminum corner piece. I have to manually push the stop arm out of the when I close the door so it will not hit that channel.

Thanks Ed

BIG ORANGE, I paid $299 for the one piece glass kit (includes all new weatherstrip and related parts) and I paid $269 for the new power window regulators.

I got the regulators from A1 Electric and they have them on sale right now for $239. Here's the link.
http://www.a1electric.com/Merchant2/...ct_Code=GM49-K

I bought the window kit from Ed at Mothertruckers. He has them priced at $295. Here's a link to his site. Just go to "products" and select "glass".
http://www.mothertruckers.net

Hope this helps.

tech1, A1's power regulators (made by Electric Life) will work with the one piece glass. I think they built and engineered them for the stock (less weight) side windows but I have been using mine for about 1 1/2 years without any problems. They go up and down fast and work great. Might be a weight issue and they don't want to warranty anything other than a stock configuration. If they ever go bad, I'll just buy new ones.

Let me say again, even though they are listed as NOT working with the one piece glass, they Will work. No mods, just bolt in place of the stock manual regulators and your good to go.

Email or PM me if you have any concerns or more questions, I'll be glad to help if I can.

Rob

Hey Pont, I had the same problem with the hinge and the window run. I ground my hinge down and it still would hit sometimes. I tied some elastic around the hinge and it seemed to work for a while, but the hinge would eventually just cut through it. This past week got around to working on the doors, and went to the hardware store and bought a little spring. What I did was a cut a piece of sheetmetal about 3 1/2 inches long and made a 90 degree bent about 1/2 and inch from the edge. I then tack welded it to the side of the window run. Then I drilled a small hole in that piece of sheet metal and right on the edge of the hinge. It is a real pain to get on but once you get the spring and everything in the door, it works flawlessly.I don't actually have my doors on my truck yet, but I tried to closed the hinge really fast and I couldn't get it to hit the window run. I took a picture and will email it to you. I don't think I can post it because Geocities sucks. Hope this helps.
