Small block vs. 6-cyl. towers
Are the towers the same for small block and 6-cyl. trucks? How about the location. My small block seems to sit too far back and I thought maybe the wrong towers or placement was used. Thanks

They're different. The I6 horseshoe up front will probably hold your motor too far back. However, my '61 had a small block held by the same method, and it fit fine. However, I am putting in v8 towers not only for positioning, but for safety as well. Hope this helps.

engine mounts ?
Go to www.performanceonline.com and look at the new motor mount they offer which is supposed to eliminate all the guess work as well as allowing the use of the more modern updated motor mount pad .

they are not the same. the six being a longer motor. I put in the stock v8 mounts but i put them in the six position which moved my motor forward. didn't notice until i went to buy headers. it gave me plenty of trans clearance with the cowl and the distributor comes out easier but i was forced to use full length headers and rebend all the brake lines to clear them. they are supposed to be back in the second set of holes. I talked to a guy who runs a local speed shop here and he had done the same thing but he says he prefers it that way. The only other problem i have is I am running a flex fan and i can't seem to find a fan shroud that will fit right now that the motor is further forward

I also am running a V8 in the forward mounting holes and a flex fan without a shroud.
I'm utilizing a 57\58 radiator just completed about a 1500mi trip with not even a hint of overheating .The only nerve racking part is working under the hood while it's running. I agree it sure makes things easier to work on

you just have to move the the mount back to line up with the mount .

the mounts on a gmc are different from 6 cly to v-8's
