help! what engine is this?
my dad bought this suburban new in 1972. He has always considered it a 350 motor. but tonight, when I went to 3 different auto parts stores, the motor mount didn't match.
so for kicks and giggles, we went and got the motor mounts for a 327/305 and it was the right one! what is the best quickest way to find out what motor this is? it is out of the truck right now awaiting the installation of my new ZZ4, but I don't know where to start to find out what I've got. Thanks! |

There is a casting number at the top rear of the engine (drivers side) right behing the intake, write that number down and post it, we'll tell ya what it is.

it shouldn't matter as far as motor mounts go. The parts guys were probably giving you later model motor mounts.
Is there an engine option listing in the glove box? If it is original, then we should be able to figure it out real quick without getting our hands greasy. |

3970010 could be a 350, 302(camaro) or 327 (69 truck) , have 3 of them. www.mortec.com
I agree w/ Andy, parts guys were getting later model mounts.

Probably the original 350 since the Front Pad matches for a '72 350cid truck motor and the casting #is a 350. only thing left to do is check the date code on the block itself.
