AM/FM/CB Radio?

Got a buddy that says he had a 69 panel that was ordered with a factory GM am/fm/cb. anyone ever seen one that came with one of these animals? I have personaly never seen one That was in one of these trucks. not calling him a liar but it raised an eyebrow. He said it actually had two antanae on for radio and one for cb on the back. Saw a lot of am/fm/cb's in the old cads and buicks in the 70's and early 80's.

So who can affirm or lay claim to BS on this story?
And if it is true what the he!! would one of those be worth?

I remember the AM/FM/CBs being available. I thought they were a JC Whitney item, I'm not sure about a genuine GM RPO. But I could be wrong. Most compromise rigs like that were not much good, esp. as a CB.
I used to have an AM/FM/Cassette Recorder by Sanyo in my truck. Bought it new in the PX at MCAS Yuma in '77. Just pulled it out this winter. The radio still worked. Sometimes the analog dial-type tuner worked better at DX than the digital ones do today. Now I'm happy with a fresh Radio Delete Plate. No rap, no jive, no DJs, no hype, no commercials, no oldies to give me the flashbacks -- I'm happy to listen to my new engine.

He says it was RPO and was on the glovebox sheet. Hes got it somewhere in his Garage/attic and was going to dig it out so I will post pics when he does.

I sure agree that the combo rigs were not worth much in their day. did ok as a radio but sucked as far as the cb's went.

I'd have to see the option sheet to believe it.
As far as the GM papers say, AM was the only radio avalible untill 71, and there were NO cb radios listed as an RPO for the 67 - 72 trucks.
As a matter of fact, i think the FCC still had strict guidlines requiring licenses for CB radios in 69.

You had to have callsigns or something back then, the previous owner of the 1969 Johnson CB that i have has his name and callsign engraved in the back of the radio.

longhorn, I agree with you, AM was as far as I knew, was the opt. for our trucks (or radio delete) ,,,, as I was calling BS.... about the radio being RPO in the truck, maybee.............possibly.........but not likely as far as I have ever known. Maybe a dealer installed opt???. but doubt that too. But he sold the truck 8-9 years ago and just kept the radio. so no true proof. But we are talking about buying the panel back from the guy he sold it to. So maybe the proof will be in the pudin' (if we can buy it back)

well, if it was a dealer installed unit, then it wouldn't be on the option sheet.
The only way it could be original is if it was a COPO....and there IS a chance on that. A panel was normally used in fleets, and fleets would benifit from CB radios....
however, i still highly doubt it.

It was a fleet truck owned by an alarm company and might be beliveable as a COPO. He said it was used for hauling around boxes,(with and without alarms) and when he bought it he said the truck had the radio and a pristeen interior and bed wood That was about 12 years ago.

CB was a dealer option..and it wasn't a combination piece with the radio in these trucks.

There are ways to verify what year a CB radio is from...via manufacturer, model and serial numbers and to what their original application was to.
