Mile Marker 4x4 conversion Kit
Well, I have been reading alot of the posts here and I found there are some very knowledgable people on here so I decided to join and try to get some help on fixing up my 1976 K-10. First off, I just bought the Mile Marker 4x4 conversion kit which makes the truck part time four wheel drive instead of full time, needless four wheel drive. I am currently in Kuwait, but I will be home in 4 days and I have the kit waiting for me at the house. I was wondering if anyone had any comments about the kit, and if I, being semi knowledgeable about trucks could install it myself. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Chris

I had one of those kits in a 74 blazer I use to own. It is easy enough to install in a few hours with regular tools, but an impact gun helps. The biggest thing to watch out for in about a million needle bearings that will fall out and need to be reinstalled. The instructions do help out on installition...

Hey Chuck, thanks for the words of wisdom. I was hoping I could catch someone who has installed the kit before. I will watch out for them needle bearings now. Thanks again.

I installed one in my 77 last winter... no big deal really... take yer time and you wont have any problems. The one thing that I did wrong was when I was putting the case differential back in I didnt line up the halves of the spider gear carrier correctly and it wouldnt go back together... after I lined up the two halves correctly by the marks on the side they went right back together no problem. The link posted earlier in this thread was the page that I printed out and took into the garage with me for reference. Good luck.
