Windshield and rear glass removal help

What is the best way to remove the glass or should I have someone come take it out. I'm not too concerned about the windshield glass because it's cracked anyway, however the rear glass is perfect.

Rear window removal. Get a few old thick butter knives from a nearby yardsale, and about 3 flat pieces of wood for wedges, 1"wide x 1/4 thick. Just start wherever the rubber seal is lose and wedge in the wood/knife/wood about 2 inches apart from each other. Keep working your way around and if you hit a tough point go back to the other side. Works great if you have 2 people, one inside and one outside. Just don't get in a hurry, remember it's been sitting here for about 30+ years. I did one in a 1/2 hour, flat screwdrivers will work also but be careful.

if the gasket is dry and cracked and you plan on replacing it /just slice the inside lip off with a utility knife and the window will pop right out, you want somebody on the outside to catch it

I second the cutting the gasket method.
Works on both front and back glass. Take a utility knife and cut off the inside flange of the gasket about 3/4 - 1 inch in from outer edge. Then after removing the cut part, just push out the glass from the top (with someone else to help hold up the glass)

Hey cliff and Boone - actually both gaskets appear to have been replaced not to long ago. Neither are dry rotted or cracking.

A large cinder block works well for cracked windshields.

DON'T smash up the windshield with a 2 foot prybar without gloves and a face mask. shatterproof my ass, i'm scarred for life on my hands and luckily not my face. thing is i kept beating it after i was bleeding, not the smartest thing.

My dad said he sat in the middle of the front seat and used his feet to 'help' one out once...lol. However, the front seat is already out so I guess I won't be trying that.

that's what it says in the books, but ours was broken too and we also had no seat.

Pick up phone, phone glass company. Wait for them to remove it. That was my process.

i doubt that was free, i wouldn't even think of paying for something this simple. did you also get an install?

Sorry, we removed all of the glass. They supplied and installed the new tinted stuff. Sorry I got ahead of myself.

Hey Jimbo,
Take a 1/2 piece of rope long enough to go all the way around the glass. From the inside of the truck, start in the corner and pull out the rubber and start stuffing the rope in behind the rubber seal. After you have gone all the way around have someone on the out side of the truck to help secure the glass so it does not fall. Be patient, it works.
