Which Carb would you recommend?
I'm replacing my 2 barrel with a 4 on my 350 with factory air. Which carb would give me adequate power and decent mileage?
Someone recommended Edlebrock 1406! I have a stock 4b intake manifold or should I get a new one of those too? |

I've used Holley and Edelbrock. The holley was fussy and needed attention quite often. The 1406 Edelbrock just bolts on and with minor adjustments runs great. Down here they say Holleys are for working on and Edelbrocks are for driving. I'd use a Holley for racing but an Edelbrock for my cruiser. Got a 1406 on my truck right now.

I just put an edelbrock performer intake and 600 cfm matching carb on my stock 350. It works great. super response and no maintenance. Total cost around $500. has electric choke. no regrets. I agree with last post about holley.

Edelbrock 1406 (is there an echo in here?) Love mine. Easy to tinker with but more often than not, you don't have to. The Edelbrock tech support is very good too!

CARTER AFB or EDELBROCK (same carb w/ different name tags) i will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER use a quadrajunk again and what the others said about holley is 100% correct. (i used to be a big holly guy till i used the CARTER)

I still like the Holley for both street and strip. I will say the Edelbrock out of the box works great for a guy with little carb experiance, but I get better performance from my Holley.

I am extremely happy with my 1406. It takes about 5 minutes to change out the metering rods, and maybe 20 minutes to change out the jets. No blown out power valves to replace. No leaky fuel bowl gaskets. No funny little accelerator pump cams to play around with.
If you go this route, make sure you install a fuel pressure regulator. |

Thanks for the info guys, It looks like 1406 will be my choice.
Do I need to buy an intake also or will my original intake that came with a 4barrel quadracrap work? |

I scored my 1406 from a guy who wanted a bigger Holley - saved around $100 . Got a used Performer intake from another board member, likewise saved around $50-$75 off retail (web or otherwise). No worries. cowboy33713 P.S. to gator- nice truck! |

600 cfm holley on my truck....9MPG, after putting on a 1406 edelbrock jumped up to 14MPG with no other mod, which is nice since gas is so high now, Randy

Eldbrock are good carbs. I just put one on my truck. But when I build a high HP/Nitrous motor next spring, I am going back to Holley.

Wow I guess I will be the bummer. I hate My 1406. The choke is horrible. Up here if it's -20 and you have the choke set when it was -5 the choke will not come off. Then when it warms up a bit the choke will not come on. NEVER did I have that problem with the so called "Quadra junk" The 1406 are horrible to start after the truck has been sitting for a couple of weeks. I just dont like them. M.H.O
I would love get a Original GM Quadrajet.

If you are looking for a Q-jet contact Cliff @ Cliffsqjet.com. He builds alot of q-jets and has cores if you need one. He will spend the time to build one exactly the way you need it.

Go with a quadrajet, you shouldn't have any problems with 'em if they're built right.
