Cabs

Are Chevy and GMC cabs interchangeable? Are there any differences at all?

Only differances between 67-72 cabs are low hump and high hump (BB & 4WD),
other than that most anything is interchangeable between any of the models.

Why do they list different doors for for 67-71 and then 72 is there a difference in the door it self or is it the cab that is different in 72?

72 doors are different, the cabs are the same, now there are A/C cabs
and non-A/C cabs, but as far as switching them the humps are the main
differance, I may have a pic of the 72 door differance, let me look for it.

I agree with that LUV man, also the 72 doors will not accept the 67-70 metal door panels with out mods. and the regulators are longer to fit the 72 door panels

Don't forget the gas pedal and parking brake differences also. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 67-68 had the lever parking brake, 69 up had it on the floor, and I think 71-72 had the cable gas pedal and earlier had it mounted on the floor, also of course there were AC and non AC cabs.

71 was the only year for a raised mounting pad to bolt the rear view mirror to.
71/72 had a vent in the drivers door jamb.
67 may have small window while all lets trucks have large only
67/68 has the hand operated e-brake and the fuse box mounted different
71/72 has the cable operated thrittle which has firewall mods to employ this.

GQ, what is the hole for that you illustrate??? And do I understand from this thread that the 72 window regulators will not work in a 69 door??? Will a 72 door fit in a 69 truck??? Chevy that is!

That hole is for a screw that holds the vent window in place I think. The 72 door will work fine, you just have to make sure the 72 door is complete with proper 72 guts (regulators, etc..). You will need to use 72 door panel as well, but that's not a bad thing since they look good

Don't forget the ignition switch hole is smaller in a 67.

And the vent wing window locks in a '67 are more like a '65/'66. Also window cranks and door handles are skinnier, but look real close to '68- & later.

I don't know if it's the a/c or not, but the drivers area of the firewall is different on my 72 compared to my 68

Vent window screw. Yes, now I see.
Still asking though: will a 72 window regulator work in a 69 door? It sounds like not.

yes it will....it'll just stick out a bit.
However, a 69 window regulator will NOT work in a 72.

I think I follow you. So the 69 has a shorter shank for the window crank handle and the 72 is longer??? Do I understand correctly? If so can the 72 reg be cut back to shorten???

The shank is longer for the moulded`72-only interior panels.I would swap-in 67-71 regulators for flat door panels

Yes and no. Yes the crank handle would chamber on the once-longer shaft, but you would have cut off the groove for the retaining spring. So unless you cut a new groove in the right place [about 3/8" down] for the retainer clip, it would pop off the first time anybody pulled on it. Both sides and door handles too = 4 times. Unless you're stuck on a desert island, it might be better to just get '67 -'71 model parts.
