Looking for an '72 original (OE) passenger side door. Perferably rust free and NO cracks around the hinge area.

I acid dipped my doors and discovered the top hinge area has a really huge cracked in the sheet metal. I was told that it was not salvagable due to the location and stress on thta area.

Understand your problem--I traded for some rust free doors last year only to find stress cracks on the hinge plate area as well. This is a common problem due to lack of lube on trucks/blazers since day one and you can find them on low mileage, rust free, original trucks as well as everything inbetween. You might want to consider some new doors as finding perfect originals is almost impossible. New pop's don't fit quite as well as originals but at least they will have good hinge plate sheetmetal. I've got to find a solution as well --imagine perfect rust free straight doors---with cracked sheet metal at the hinge plates~~~UGH!!!

Its nothing but pain! The acid dip also reveled the swiss cheese at the bottom of the door. Luckily the drivers side is perfect. The only diference I see in converting trucks doors is the originality of the extra plate that is around the rear striker plate. I haven't taken one of these off to see if could be grafted it onto the truck door for the exact look.

Did just that on a drivers door on Orangeuavol's Blazer. Just drilled out the spot welds and used these holes to weld it back on to a cut down PU door.

Every Blazer I've parted or looked at close like-with the original doors and reinforcement plate--had doors that looked like a pickup door cut down. I'm beginning to think that this is what the plant did. That extra plate that surrounds the stirker mech. doesn't do much! Never saw a Blazer with the latch mech. broken out. The real problem is the hinge reinforcement which got nada! But then again I guess an offroad rock crawler might flex enough to create a problem there but I never saw one.

Could the crack problem be fixed from the inside if the skins were removed?

V the crack out and weld it back up. Then grind the weld back down smooth. It works great!! Should get you 10 to 15 more years of good service even more if you lube the hinges.... WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I've never tried to weld it back together, I was told by two reliable sources that it would not hold because of how thin the sheet metal is in that area. So, if you stripped and fixed the door, it would be a waste of time and money. On the other hand, what do ya gotta lose...
Still looking for a good door though!
