Filling in the gas fill hole

I've seen a few patches here on the board that someone's dished and made to look right.

Anyone know where to get one? I don't want to install a flat piece of metal.

If not in production, I may be able to throw a few together, I make old fashioned (as in 15th Century) armour.

I don't know why finding a junk cab and scarfing a patch piece off the passenger side "shoulder" wouldn't work. Seems to me the piece would be correctly concave.

I've mentioned this many times always being ignored. I guess it's easier to buy one than to get a hole saw out

That would work, then I could cut larger and flange the sides.

So, who's got a cab I can chop a hole into?

I thought about that, but I am filling in the antenna hole as well.

The truck will have XM radio installed with a lo-profile antenna on the roof.

Heh, I can cut and weld a piece. Like I said, I can form one.

However, if someone out there's already formed them, why duplicate efforts?

It is really easy to make one. I just got a piece of 20g steel sheet, cut it to size with a jigsaw (using a cardboard template), then used a hammer on the sheet, against my bench vice to get the correct shape, then welded it in, filled and painted......took about 2 hours total time (less dry time for the filler):

I made a patch out of the pass side of an old cab but it isn't as straight forward as it sounds. You still have to massage it a bit. It takes too long to explain but if anybody ever does one they will see what I mean.

Doesn't a patch panel come with one of the Blazer Tank conversion kits. Where did I see that? edit: Wes of Classic Heartbeat includes a Truck GAs Filler Hole Plug http://www.classicheartbeat.com/cata...tank%20kit.htm

man get ya a piece of sheet metal a vice and start ponding a spot about the same size as the tank hole i used the ball side of the hamer to mushroom the center out, it will take you no more than 10 to 15 miniut to round it to the same as the truck. take a piece of paper put it over the hole trace template. trace the template onto sheet metal and walla.

CPNE, I'm leaving mine where the General intended also, but I have to say anyone taller than me (5'11) would probably be uncomfortable, the seat doesn't go back very far. If the tank weren't there I'd probably want the seat back another notch or 2.

Hey grendel, sorry I don't have any filler patches on hand right now. The ones I make are the correct gauge and have the proper contour. They also have locating tabs that make positioning and welding them in place a lot easier. I also send them cleaned up and ready to be just wiped down and welded in. The down side to this is it takes about 30 or so minutes each to make one. I charge $20 each for them which I know sounds a little steep. I can post a pic if the ones I make if you like. If this sounds like something you may be interested in, let me know and I will cut one out for you. If not, no problem.

How do I pay you for one?
