Help! 700r4 Pressure Testing - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

According to BowTieOverdrives, they recommend doing a transmission pressure test prior to a test drive on all 700r4's. I have everything ready for this, but they are closed today! Grrr...

Wondering if anyone else has a pressure gauge, or even better the sheet they give you where you write in the pressures. I just need to know where the pressure is supposed to be at.

I did see the charts on TCIAuto below. But when they give you a range of numbers, I don't know if my need fluctuating between those numbers are normal, or if it should give a steady reading in every gear. So far my lowest gear fluctuates the most.

Some of their numbers don't jive with my books, but then I have no faith in TCI transmissions. The needle will bob a little sometimes that's normal.

The readings I got on my 1993 – 4L60 were P-70-165-170. R-115,260,270. N-70,160,170. OD-70,170,175. 3rd-70,170,190. 2nd-185,180,180. 1st-185,180,180. I have a list of readings from ATSG (Automatic Transmission Service Group) manual that I have found info in. File was to big to post can send you e-mail if you would like.The reading you posted seem very high, I am not a Auto trany expert but all of the info I have is those are high.
I was told by Bow Tie Overdrive that my pressures were within the range and that corresponds with the readings in the book, although there are actually high according to the 84 Camaro GM service manual I have which is for a 700r4. Both of these tranys are the same basic thing both have TV cables.

BTO told me that the important thing is that you have low pressure with no throttle (around 80 psi) and an immediate steady increase as you throttle. And of course not exceeding the max pressure. If it doesn't jump up immediately, that's the problem.
