Jack rating??
I am looking to get a jack for my truck and was wondering what the minimum capacity should be.

I had a 6ton bottle jack in my 86 blazer. It would raise it with no problems. I always belive in overrating on a jack or frame stands.

Is the jack to stay with the truck?
Where are you going to secure the jack? Either a screw jack or bottle jack and the weight is not as important as the height it extends to. Usaully you will only be lifting one corner of the truck at a time though you need to get high enough to do that. My truck came with a small 2 ton floor type jack though not very practical.

Yes it stay's in the truck and I had a base plate that is 1ft square welded to it. It has a total lift of 36 inches. When I got the blazer the jack was missing and after hunting all the salvage yards here I could not find the one that comes wiyj it. Works great.
