Front Engine Oil Leak Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Oil is leaking from the bottom of my timing cover on my 69' 350 and I have never worked on this type of problem. Can I fix this without pulling the engine? I do have a harmonic balance puller. Thanks very much for your time and any info.

Someone put a post up not too long ago about a one-piece gasket for the oil pan. I believe they were able to just raise the engine and drop the pan out. Maybe someone knows the thread I'm talking about.

Is it leaking from around the harmonic balancer or is it leaking from between the timing chain cover and the oil pan?

I haven't taken the timing chain cover off yet, so I'm not sure if the leak is around the harmonic balancer or between the timing chain cover and oil pan.

If it is the seal between the pan and timing chain cover, I do not use these at all anymore. Ultrablack RTV.....have built 50-60 engines with this...NO LEAKS!

If the leak is at the balancer, balancer probably needs a speedy sleeve and a new seal. Seal wear a ring in the balancer.

Also, check to make sure there is a short bolt in the upper, front of block motor mount (these bolt holes were used in EARLY engine applications...not the side of block mounts)....the fuel pump pushrod is open to the elements...and acts like a oil pump if the bolt is missing.
