Opinions: 2-3" front drop, coils or drop spindles?
I'm new to the board. My son and I are working on my 65 lwb stepside. Right now we have the frame in the driveway degreasing. Soon we will start the suspension rebuild and I can't decide the best way to do the front drop.
I am looking for a later model chevy p/u to pull the front clip out of, among other parts. I have been unsuccessfull thus far but I'll find a one eventually. Basically we want to convert to front disks, auto column, ps, pb. I have a 283 bored .060 over, mild cam, and am working on electronic ignition, 4 barrel carb. I also thought about some shorty headers and 2.5" exhaust out the back. I'm undecided on the headers. Anyway, first things first. What are opinions on the best way to drop the front end? Drop springs or drop spindles? I want a driver that won't jar your teeth over bumps but handle a lot better than it did stock. I plan on sway bars etc. Thanks. |

spindles are always better than just springs. It allows you to retain the stock steering geometry and full spring travel so the ride should be unchanged from stock. I have put spindles on six of my vehicles and have been very pleased with the results.

Thank you for the reply. Those were my thoughts as well. I just thought I would get confirmation. I'm sure I'll have more questions as the project proceeds

get a front clip from a 73 to 87 i think, and use drop spindles for sure. what ever year you get for a front clip, ask for that year when you get spindles

I have the same setup and drop as Demmit also from CPP. Since u are using a later model front clip , I would also check with www.sporttruckdirect.com , I have bought 4 of the Western chassis drop kits from them. Very good support!!

i used 3 inch spindles from belltech, and firestone air bags for rear. probably goinh to put in springs in the front too. bags eventually!! another thing to, is that i only paid about $200 canadian for my spindles, which is alot cheaper than cpp.
