57 stepside bed sides the same as 67-72?

I just saw a 57 long bed stepside bed in the paper that says good condition. I want a longbed stepside for the 72 4X4 that I am restoring. Isn' this the same bed, front panel, steps, tailgate as a 67-72 truck. I know the fenders are not the same, but I can always get those. Thanks

Overall they are the same, except the above-mentioned bolt holes, but you may also want to check the rolled flange area where the steps bolt on at the front of the bed. This area may be different and require grafting that area off of a 67-72 step bed, I don't know for sure though.

57 long bed differences

A couple other things to watch for. Regarding the bedsides, besides the fender holes, the angle strip holes are different, and in 57, there were two lengths of long beds available. You need the longer one, about 98" inside length, to match the 67-72 length. The axle cutout area is in a different location on the 57 bed and the embossed ribs will come very close to your fender mounting pattern. If you are looking at the complete bed, there are a lot more differences that will complicate the process, rear sill difference in mounting bracket, Cross sill and bed-to-frame mounting is in a different location. Nothing that can't be worked out, but know it will be a project, not a Saturday afternoon bolt in. Check http://www.mar-k.com/bed_side_interchange_gm.html for a little more information.

54-87 except hole location. Some of the parts are still available at GM.
