FINALLY...but have a question

Well as of 10:30 last night the "project" has it's SSBC Force 10 front calipers in place. It's been an uphill battle but they are finally on and clearing the wheels.

Here's the question...In order to get them to clear the wheels I had to run a 5/16" spacer....this gives me about 1/4" of clearance between the caliper and the wheel...is that gonna be enough? I was told by SSBC that "As long as they clear when everything is torqued down, it doesn't matter if it's 1/16ths of an inch." I'm just concerned with flexing or something. Am I just being concerned for no reason?

been there! i fabbed up 2001 rear discs (12") in the rear of my project... only to take my new 15x10 cragar ss's out of the box and see the disappointing truth.... they didn't fit... i ended up going with a different rear disc setup (from 97 camaro, 11.5" discs) after 3/16 spacers, they fit... i've got probably 1/8" clearance.... and not looking back! :-)

Thanks guys...What I kinda felt but wanted to know if anyone else had calipers that close.

One good thing though...They look BADASS being that close to the wheel!!

Good to hear you got your wheel/ brake clearance issues resolved. Out of curiousity, what type of spacer are you running? (Billet AL). I guess the SSBC brakes won't clear the wheel regardless of the BS.

Sounds like you're making some progress.

The SSBC setup has been a journey. When I initially ordered the whole setup I SPECIFICALLY asked if any other modifications would be needed (since I hadn't ordered my wheels yet) and was told that as long as the wheels were 17's or bigger then "no problems". So I got everything in and put everything on and "clink"...wheel "face" hits the caliper... I call SSBC and they tell me that different wheels fit different ways...blahblahblah...and basically I'll either need to order the wheels with thicker hubs to compinsate for the difference or run a spacer... So I call Chris at Boyds and talk to him about re-hooping the front wheels....$250 a wheel plus shipping.... NO THANKS! Sooo I sent the truck on to the paint shop and really just haven't messed with the brakes until last week. I was cleaning up the garage and saw the calipers just sitting up on the shelf. Took them down, mounted them up and took some measurements and figured that a 1/4" spacer wouldn't be quite enough but a 1/2" would probably work. Went up to NAPA and saw they had the 5/16" spacers so I got them and took them home.....taaa-daaa, they worked.

I'm running a simple 5/16" aluminum spacer for now. I am hoping to have a set of billet ones made in the near future, but need to find someone that will do it.

Other than that one issue...the SSBC setup is VERY nice.

N2TRUX - I know I know.....unfortunately the wife "lost" my digital when we were down in the Keys...I'll try to bum one from the neighbor this week. (Plus I kinda need to clean up the wheels and calipers (they USED to be polished ) for the pics).
