lost truck keys

I need to move my truck but I can't find my keys. is there any way to start these trucks with out putting in new ignition or is it easy to put new ignition in? thanks for your help

Batt power to coil (yellow on my truck), momentary power to starter (purple) solenoid.

That's with points. I believe HEI can be hot-wired in a similar fashion.

I'm pretty sure it'd work. HEI gets constant 12V to the coil anytime the key is on, so you're not going to blow up the coil doing this.

I don't have a running HEI-equipped vehicle handy, so I can't test my theory.

That is why I like that my keys fall out of the ignition with it running. A screwdriver would start my truck if I was to misplace the keys. I have another ignition sitting in the garage. Maby I should change them out some day.

Yup...it'll work too.
Run a wire to your HEI where you plugged it in (batt terminal) and run a wire to the s sterminal on your starter. I would leave these two connected for now, then clamp the coil wire onto your pos on the battery, and touch the one from your starter to your pos terminal till it starts. You'll need to disconnect the coil power to kill the engine.
Notice, that your battery will not charge like this, so don't try driving it to the store or anything...
I'm going to have to do this to the Longhorn since I ripped out the whole under hood harness and was reminded AFTER the fact that we are repaving the drive way next week or so.

Having started a lot of cars in the past, it is easiest to open up the harness just as it comes out of the firewall connector, there you have your porple (starter) and pink (ignition), and 12v (red) wires. bare a spot on them so they cannot touch, use your always reuired alligator clipped jumpers from red to pink and touch purple to start. You can Also carry an ignition switch and simply unplug the plug from the old lock and plug it into your switch. That will not light up the gen and brake warning lights unless you ground the swiitch.

thanks for your help. i'm going to try moving it tommorow. hopefully i'll find my keys by then, but with the house mostly packed up already its hard to say where they might be.
