Roll back the speedometer-anybody?

Will be putting in the new white gages soon but would like to roll back the speedometer I got off e-bay befor I do. Anybody know how to do this? This speedometer is not the OE that came in the truck and shows way more miles than the truck has on it. The OE showed 108,000 and this one shows 86,000 which could be just 86,000 or 186,000. Most likely 186,000 I would guess. Would like to get it to show true miles.

That is for a 67-72...our speedos are different. I tried on mine a while back, never was able to figure it out.

I am not talking about rolling back the miles in my truck. But putting the miles in the other speedo to the right miles that my truck has on it.

I don't know much about this, but it seems like, in your case, it might be a shorter trip to run it forward. Maybe with a drill or something in place of the cable to the trans..???

Actually rolling back a speedometer is not illegal. As long as you don't represent it to be actual mileage. That "IS" illegal.

In this case it doesn't matter though because all he wants to do is set the new odo to the correct mileage....

I would say use a dremel and roll it forward. That would be the easiest. Just put it in a vise and check on it periotically. Before long, true mileage.

Thumbs up

It's been quite awhile since i've been in one but i think you can just swap the whole odometer unit.

In other words remove your 108K odo from your old assy. and install it in the new one unless it is inoperative.
