Van Tilt column
Hey guys
I am sure some of you have done this a million times and probably heard it asked that many times too. I have a 72 van tilt cruise auto column. I want to put it into my truck. I have heard there is some conversion necessary, then I have heard it is a direct fit. (Personally I think it looks a little long) If there is already a thread(which i am sure there is) point me in the right direction Thanks

Those are very helpful but i still have a problem.
This column doesn't have a neutral saftey switch at all. It doesn't really look like it has a place for one. Thanks in advance for any info

Trans. Switch
If the van still has the transmission, check it for a switch.

I bought it off a guy in Colorado about 8 yrs ago. He said it was a 72 truck column. Being all of 17. I didn't really know the difference. The levers looked like the right vintage as well as the column itself(shape, etc...) It had a camaro steering wheel on it when i pulled off the horn button there was a tag behind it that said 72 chevy van. This was very discouraging. So i let the thing sit because i had no way to contact the guy. anyway i found it in my mom garage a couple of weeks ago(thinking it was long gone) And had read a coulple people on here converting them. So I'm here trying to figure it out. I guess it could be a truck column. All i have to go on is that paper tag that i found when i pulled off the steering wheel. I will post some pics when i get home tonight. Are there any other tell tails to see which it is?

As for looking long, that probably means it is a van column. On the N\S switch this post shows where the van switch is located and how to modify the position to fit in a truck. The N\S switch can be picked up at most auto parts stores if you don't have one. If you don't have the wiring for one the are a few people on the parts board that should be able to fix you up(teeitup or pickmup come to mind).

I haven't seen any how to on wiring(its factory). These threads might help on teardown\assembly:
