video research...GOOD NEWS!

Just wanted to post an update for those of you involved in the video research. A co-worker of mine has just finished helping me successfully convert the 1981 laserdisc to DVD!! I just watched it in DVD format, and the quality is excellent! We will be converting the 1984 & 1985 discs this week, once those are finished, I will watch them as well to ensure everything worked. If all systems are a go, I will start making copies for everyone who has participated.

I know it has been a while, but believe me...the wait will be worth it...these are really freakin cool! There are some very neat action shots of our trucks (and a pre-runner too!), some funny skits, and TONS of good information in them. I am sure you will all be thrilled!

Anyhow, just wanted to update everyone and let you know I havent forgotten about you.

Congrats on your success Jeff. I know you have put a lot of frustrating effort in to the R&D of these. Let us know when they are ready for the consumer....

Thanks for the supportive words guys, means a lot to me. Had I known these would be such a PITA, I would have never took this journey! But all in all, I think it will be worth it, and if I find anymore laserdisc, I now have the abilty to convert them.

For those of you who want copies, I will travel down that path once I get copies to those who have already chipped in on this effort (since they have been waiting quite some time). When that time does come though, I will more than likely GIVE you a copy of each, providing you make a small donation to the board. I don't want to get into any kind of trouble by selling them, so I think this method would be best...and will basically benefit everyone while doing so. Moderators, if you have any input into this matter/idea, please PM me and we can work it out.

I think i gave you some money (or maybe you said to hold off when you were having a hard time getting them), but either way I'd like to get a hold of one when they are ready

OK, everything appears to be working just fine with the conversions, however, we had to play around with the format on the DVD itself and try a couple different DVD formats...DVD+R and DVD-R. What I need from the people who have contributed thus far is the NAME & MODEL NUMBER of your DVD player...this will help us get the DVD's created and make them playable with your DVD player (we will use videohelp.com to help us determine what will play in your player). SO, please PM me that information...thank you.

Mine is a Sanyo DRW-1000. It should support any format you want to make. According to Sanyo's website, it is compatible with CD, CD-R/-RW, DVD Video, DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW.

Thanks,
Mike W.

Great news. Sorry for getting to this late. I can play any format - or +. Only thing I ask is to be sure to use some quality discs. If you use cheap stuff, they won't last and will go bad after a few months or year. I highly recommend either Fuji or Sony in the +R 8x but be sure it says they are made in Japan on the package. These discs are made by a company named Taiyo Yuden. None better. You can find these discs on sale at Bestbuy for around 40 cents each or 20 bucks for 50 and 40 bucks for 100. Stay as far away from Memorex discs as you can. Them things are nothing short of being junk. If you need more help with this stuff, I know quite a bit about it and will be glad to help.

Oh, one more thing, if you use +R's and your burner supports it, booktype them to DVD-ROM and they should play in anyone's player no matter what format they're player supports. What burner and software are you using to burn with?
