What's involved w/installing intermittent wipers
I have a 76 I would like to install intermittent windshield wipers in.
Can anyone tell me what I need to change out for this? Any info is appreciated. Thanks. |

you need the correct wiper switch and the intermittent box that goes with it. The box plugs into the switch and your factory harness plugs into the box. And then you have intermittent wipers. Its that easy............
I used to have part numbers, but I just moved, so I have no idea where they are. The switch was like $30 new and the box was $80. Both AC Delco parts. The boxes are notorious for going out though......

So even a truck that didn't come with delay wipers can be converted over to them with just the box and the switch? A factory harness that didn't come with delay will have the open plug-ins hanging there?

If you want to take a look at an old thread on this subject I have it saved here- Look inside Keep in mind that the pics that were attached in that thread were lost in one of the forum updates so it is hard to follow.

I am interested in this as well. My '77 has intermittant wipers... I think. But I am going to rewire the whole truck with a Painless harness anyway so the factory wiring will get tossed. I do want to convert to a turn signal stalk wiper switch arrangement. Can I just slap a newer stalk into my old steering column and run the wires for it, or will I need to grab a column from a donar truck that already has it? Then I would need the control box for the later year models and just wire it up per the factory diagrams, right?

If you go to a stalk mounted control you are going to need to switch columns, but that creates other issues. The connector and the intermediate shafts are different on the later columns.... |

You can locate these switches and delay control modules at your favorite local salvage (junk) yard. They do go out. So over the past several months, I've gathered about 3 spare switches and control modules. If you like to 'junk yard', they are relative easy to find.
