crossmember question

I have a 1960 chevy stepside that will be my next project and I'm wondering. Did they all come w/ the torsion bar setup up front or did some come with the standard coil spring set up?
Also, would a 1973-84 frontend fit underneath the frontend or do I need to do some fabbing?

1960 to 1962 came with torsion bar front suspension, 1963 saw the change to coil fronts.

I have never had to do this, but too my knowledge the 60-62 frame is a little narrower then the 63-87(91 burb) frame. So I have heard of people narrowing the cross member or just shimming the crossmember.

I measured the framerails finally today, and found that they were exactly the same and I'm sure an 85 xmember would fit w/ some mods to two holes.
I'm also hearing that the later setup are atleast an inch wider on each side(from spindle to spindle) But I'll see if that's true or not. I see if I can post pics later on.

I have a 62' Step, with a mid 80's chevy P/U crossmember brake rotor to brake rotor swapped in. with the power brakes, power steering it's a dream to drive.

This picture is with it photoshopped to get an idea how it will sit on the BC Smoothie II's I ordered.

I think the 4wd trucks did NOT come with torsion bar front end. Not sure if this helps or not
