Well, I've scavenged thousands of miles over 3 states (mainly backroads) searching for old trucks to buy. I just found this one less than 3 miles from my house thats been sitting for years!! 1971 1 ton with camper - 402 BB, 400 auto, ps, pb, a/c, buckets, and cruise with 87,000 miles. The guy says the cruise came from the factory, but I'm not sure. I've got a GM unit and noticed several differences. However, it does have the correct "cruise" button on the end of the blinker lever. Anyway, though I'd share the pictures and get your thoughts.

ps. it's not for sale even after I made him a very generous offer

It does not look to be the older stye cruise control that's shown in my 68 catalog either. Was factory/dealer cruise even avaiable on a BB engine? Is it listed on the glovebox?

It sure looks like a period cruise control unit nontheless.

What's the rest of the truck look like?

the lever was avalible into the early 80's on many GM cars. Agreed that nothing else looks right either.
I say added by the camper company.

Check out the info in the following thread from the FAQ section. I agree with Andy, it was probably installed by the dealer or camper company.

Looks nothing like the factory cruise I took off my '69 K5. I sold the pieces on ebay a couple months ago.

cruise button on a 70 Le Mans was just a little button in a stock sized signal... that looks to be late 70s but I admit I have never seen one on our trucks.

mine has factory cruise, but the lever was broken when i got it and a later one (just like the one shown) has been installed. But under the hood is all original cruise stuff.

Under the hood is not factory original cruise. I have a factory original cruise that I will put on my '70 Burb someday.

You best go read the post in the FAQ I put most of the answer in there on factory cruise there 86swb. Cruise was under the hood except lever or button.

The cruise pics at the top of this thread looks like a aftermarket cruise system that dana developed in this era.

Yes, I know the cruise is under the hood but the cruise in the picture is not OE cruise from GM. Mine is.

Ok then ....I guess I mis-read the post ..I will assume you were talking about the picture in the post up top when you were mentioning under the hood is not factory cruise..your right, his isn't... thats the trouble with writing sometimes...things get lost in translation.
Post your pic of your cruise. 70 is a little bit of an odd year. I have seen both single and double port vacuum pods...seen vacuum pods on firewall also and you could have either style switch to activate depending on first or second job style. The mount for the pod on firewall seems to of had 2 different style of chain set ups also..most I tried to show in the thread on cruises mentioned in the FAQ. The servo should have the cables coming out the same side in 70.

On my '69 K5, the speedo cable adapter was bolted to the inner fender. The vaccum control was bolted to the front of the intake with a chain running back to the carb. I kept the column switch to use with the dakota unit i plan to install.

Never seen anything factory in these trucks that was mounted to the front of the intake myself.

My 70 had a "different" cruze control on it when I bought it. It has a little wire screwed to the back of the pedel, that ran to a pully, then ran to a box under the dash with a switch. It didn't work ata ll and looked like crap so I took it out. I thought it was funny seeing that old thing that looked like a home made job
